Gerrard-Winwick. Smith-Ire, Liverpool, Ormskirk

Hi everyone, just joined, and am hoping for information regarding Gerrard's at Winwick. I have got back to Phillip (Phipps) Gerrard 1812-1876, married to Ann Baxter. They had Sarah, Ellen, John, Peter, Ann, William B ( my GGGrandfather ). I moved down south, and i'm guessing a visit to the church is my only option for pre 1837.
My other branch has been a nightmare. My Mum (living) was adopted and found out her birth details about 15 years ago. Her mother died 3 weeks after giving birth to her, and its "father unknown". Her Grandad......John Smith  . Ive had fun you might say. I'm now stuck on George Smith b.1830 County Down Ireland, married to Elizabeth ( Eliza ) Radican b. Kings County ( Offaly ) Ireland. They started in Liverpool ( son Thomas baptized Holy Cross 1851 ), went to Ormskirk (1861 census) and had James, Jane, John, William, George, Joseph and Charles. Is this a visit to Ireland? Any help appreciated if they are in any members tree.
If anyone needs a look up on the Isle of Wight i'll gladly help. May take a couple of weeks until i need to pass somewhere. Great site by the way. Thanks Ian.

Hi Ian, a very warm welcome to the best forum around.
It's almost my clocking off time but UK the crew will be in shortly.

Just a suggestion, you may like to split your post, listing your Mum's family separate
from the Gerrard's??

Also Ellen Gerrard unm 58 dom serv bn Winwick (Philip's sister??)

Hello and welcome Ian,
For the crew here...
This is George and Elizabeth's marriage:
SMITH, George and RADICAN, Elizabeth
Registration district: Chorlton, Lancashire
Year/qtr of registration: 1850 / Jul-Aug-Sep
Volume no: 20; Page no: 138.
From Lancs BMD: Chorlton-on-Medlock Register Office or Registar Attended

This would be the family in 1851...
REDICAN, Patrick - Head - Married - 47 - 1804 - Pensioner - Ireland.
REDICAN, Ann - Wife - 43 - 1808 - Ireland.
SMITH, George - Lodger - Married - 20 - 1831 - Hawker - Ireland.
SMITH, Elizabeth - Dtr - Married - 18 - 1833 - Power Loom Weaver - Ireland.
REDICAN, William - Son - U/m - 15 - 1836 - Excavator Lab - Gibraltar.
Address: 3 Matthew Street, Hulme, Manchester.
HO107 - Piece: 2221 - Folio: 885 - Page: 27.

Because William was born in Gibraltar I believe his father was an ex-Army man in receipt of a pension from the Chelsea Pensioners Hospital. It is likely his service papers are online. There's a Patrick Reddican, bn abt 1803 in Aughrim near Elphin, Co Roscommon, enlisted in 1824 in the 47th of Foot at Longford. There are 17 images available for this man. The 47th (Lancashire) Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment, and the Lancashire connection could be why Patrick ended up in Manchester.

http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie has a marriage for a Patrick Reddican and an Ann ? in 1829 in Sligo. Need to purchase credits to see the record.

Same site has a baptism for a George Smith, 1831, in Co Down. What was his father's name and occupation from the marriage cert?

Just got back from work, wow, you lot are quick, and bloody good at this detective stuff
Tina, thanks for the info, looks like i have got some Irish in me somewhere. ( have to start drinking Guinness i guess ). Manchester by birth and upbringing. I suppose if we go far enough back we would all come from a few little tribes, very hairy and a loin cloth by sabre.
Hilary, some info i did not have. Thank you very much :) Not clicked on the link yet but should give me more opportunities to stay on here and neglect my wife
Dickiesam, same, new info and a link for more stuff, brilliant. Would like to visit Ireland though and probably will. Ancestors from North and South, should be fun.

So to you all :thumbup: and i hope to help someone out if i can.
