Hi and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately at that date there will be no newspaper archives online, mostly they stop about 1900.

We have a list of newspapers which would have been in print at various dates and the most likely you would find an obituary for somebody living in Newton would be St Helens http://www.forum.liverpool-genealogy.or ... =newspaper

To contact St Helens library, they may be willing to do a 15 minute search for you for free, otherwise it would mean paying a researcher. Try the library first http://www.sthelens.gov.uk/libraries

Good one John, that would appear to be the answer.

FreeBMD lists the death in the index, Newton being the registration district and yes it does cover Croft.
