Hi and welcome to the forum.

That is not a street name I am familiar with and have also checked with the Liverpool History Projects site that has street name listings for 1901 and it's not there.

Could I ask you to please post a small part of the marriage certificate so that we can see the street name and also compare the lettering to some of the other writing on the cert. and see if we can recognise it.

Also so that we have more information, such as years of birth, father's names and occupations etc.

Do you know where they lived later in life? back in England or did they remain in Ireland?

How to post a picture in your message

Maybe he remarried Mary, but no sign of the children living with him in 1891 in Liverpool if it is the same man!

Birthplace makes me think it is the same man Erika, but wonder what's happened to the other children and Mary Ellen. Nor 1891.

Thank you for your fast response. The address which I gave came from his marriage certificate on http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/reels/d-511-3-3-017.pdf. This was his second marriage. I have a marriage reference for a James Lawrence H. Byrnes, who married in Kensington, London, in 1876. Could be the same person.

James & Agnes lived for a time in England, & then returned to Ireland. There were 2 children born in England, Empsie & Nora. The third child, Dorothy, was born in Dublin.

Regards,
John

So the information that I requested is:

All Saints Church, Parish of Grange Gorman, City of Dublin - 4th March, 1889
James Lawrence Hamilton Byrnes Full Age, Widower, Traffic Inspector
21 Jeaunette Street, Liverpool E
Father James Byrnes - occupation Decorator
Agnes Hannah Hodgins Full Age, Spinster 40 Avondale Road
Father Joseph Hodgins occupation Foreman
Both signed their name
Witnesses Joseph Hodgins and Mary Hodgins

The marriage took place by Licence - might be interesting if you were to obtain a copy of the Licence to see why it was necessary.

Your "Empsie" is probably Emily that Erika found

Emily Mabel Byrne Q3 1889 West Derby 8b 487

Perhaps she was the reason for the Licence.

So if you know about the children and their time in England and when they returned to Dublin, what information are you looking for?

Just a thought...
Could Janet Street be Jeaunette Street and the registrar got it wrong, possibly due to an accent problem? Janet Street ran from Gladstone Street to Wavertree Road.

Up to last week I knew absolutely nothing about James Byrnes's family in England. I wish to thank all contributors to this discussion forum.

I think it's too much coincidence for it not to be, don't you?

That's exactly my thinking! Strange accent to foreign ears?
