Looking for descendants of John J Curran and Alice Maines

Post by skrobs »

Looking for the descendants of John James CURRAN and Alice MAINES last known at 1911 census. They were married January 1907 in St. Mary`s Church Kirkdale and at 1911 there was one daughter Mary CURRAN born 1907 who married George DOYLE also at St. Mary`s Kirkdale in April 1928. Hearsay says that there were a number of children to John and Alice and another few more to another marriage to Alice undiscovered as yet. Looking for some clues before a visit to the record office in Liverpool.

Thanks, Keith Roberts.

Hello Keith,
These are children bn Liverpool Curran nee Maines, 1911 to 1925:

1) CURRAN, unknown - bn and died between 1907 and March 1911.
It might be this one..
Births Jun 1910: CURRAN, Richard - W. Derby - 8b - 267.
Deaths Sep 1910: Curran, Richard - age 0 - W. Derby - 8b - 163.

2) CURRAN, Alice - W. Derby - 8b - 840 - Sep 1911.
3) CURRAN, Gorge - West Derby - 1913 [Volume 8B, Page no: 925]
3) CURRAN, George - West Derby - 1913 [Volume 8B, Page no: 925A]
4) CURRAN, Annie - West Derby - 1915
5) CURRAN, Samuel - West Derby - 1916.
6) CURRAN, Emily - West Derby - 1918

The entry 3) [x2] appears to be the same child and the forename has been officially altered in the GRO.
Above list edited to include a missed birth [Alice].

This could be Alice's second marriage:
Alice Curran married Richard Evans
Registration district: Liverpool
Year/qtr of registration: 1920 / Apr-May-Jun
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 12.

There are two children bn Evans nee Maines in Liverpool up to 1925:
EVANS, Elizabeth S - West Derby - 1922
EVANS, John - West Derby - 1924

For the crew here John's YoB is abt 1879 and Alice's is abt 1888 [from 19sshhh!].

You seem to have much of it tied up there DS, good one!

Welcome to the forum Keith. Apart from Electoral Registers, and you need to know addresses to search them, you may not glean much from a visit to the Record Office to identify descendants. We have put together a few hints here http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154 to try to help people looking for living people. Hope you find them useful.

Tina, if he died while serving in WW1 he may have lost 5 years off his age in order to sign up. I took the probable YoBs from the last census.

Thank you so much to you avid researchers and in particular DS, MaryA, Tina, and Alison for your very valuable and very much appreciated findings into the descendants of John James CURRAN and Alice MAINES. I had been sidetracked by my wifes information gleaned from her mother (Mary DOYLE YoB 1907) that she was the first born of 6 girls and that her mother Alice MAINES had remarried and produced 6 boys and as you may see by the result of the births that this was not the case. I do have the marriage certificate of JJC and AM which does prove the Family History information to be absolute but thanks Alision for your search time.

Mary, you do say that maybe not much can be achieved by a visit to the records office so what about the church baptism records for St. Mary`s Church, Kirkdale which seems to feature in two generations of weddings? Can these be located there and would it be worth a visit?

Thank you all for a great deal in less than 48m hours on this forum! Brilliant.

Keith Roberts.

Hi,
I missed a Curran/Maines birth!

Births Sep 1911: CURRAN, Alice - Maines - W. Derby - 8b - 840.
Original post amended!

And according to the entry on the last census, the couple had another child besides Mary Curran but that child had died before April. That makes 7 in total up to 1918 if they are all to John and Alice.

Yes you are quite right Keith, they would be at the Record Office, I hadn't realised that you would know the actual church where ceremonies took place.
