Hi and welcome to the forum. Can you please quote the relevant part of the Will for us, without knowing which areas of Liverpool he might have had an affiliation for it would be difficult, however, I think you would probably need to check the cemeteries rather than churchyards - perhaps Anfield. Also what religion was he as that might make a difference.

ok what i can tell you is that before he moved to isle of man, he lived in carr lane west derby, then some time after the 1911 cencus the family upped sticks and went to the iom, on the 5 sept 1925 ernest died in douglas. and after reading from the accounts part of the will it states this,

"expenses of funeral liverpool - 17 : 2:0"

on reading the will it stated that he had a set amount of money for the grave, i quote

"i empower my trustees hereinafter next appointed to expend any sum as to them shall seem expedient but not exceeding in the whole the sum of one hundred pounds in the purchase of a grave and the erection on such grave of a headstone and curbing with all necessary lettering thereon"

i have no idea what religion he was.

i hope this helps a little?

It's difficult, especially at that recent date. We tried to collect a list of Cemeteries and Crematoriums and the dates they opened http://www.forum.liverpool-genealogy.or ... lit=mi%27s . With the links to West Derby I would definitely try Anfield, West Derby and possibly even Everton.

I have found no record for the burial on Ancestry, but that could well be because it's too recent and maybe hasn't yet been transcribed.

You obviously have the exact date of date and so a close date for the burial, I would suggest that you first of all check for any obituary or notice in the Liverpool Echo, that worked well the last time I searched for one and it told me that the cremation had taken place in Anfield. The archives for the Echo are held at the Liverpool Record Office, not online after the beginning of the 1900s.

the only other bit of info on the accounts of the will is that there is a payment made to an r jones for the headstone and kerb, would that help give an idea of location of the cemetary at all? i presumme that the stone masons had there "patches" that they covered in liverpool

Unfortunately I think you may have no idea just how many cemeteries and graveyards there are in Liverpool. I have sent you a private message with a suggestion.

Yes there is. You need to contact Allerton Cemetery Lodge http://liverpool.gov.uk/births-marriage ... remations/ who charge £10 per cemetery per year for a search.

I don't believe this is a field that has been researched in any depth, if anybody has any theories about this I'd appreciate hearing about that.

Then your hunch and my suggestion of West Derby is very likely correct.

Thanks Tina.

Hi Dawn,

What's the story with the two surnames? Now that it looks like he was buried at West Derby Cemetery you might be able to get a free look-up from the cemetery office at Allerton Lodge. They are supposed to do free look-ups if you have the name, date of death and cemetery where they were buried.

the story with the 2 names is that he was born ernest jabez hawkins in oldland gloucestorshire in 1851, he married and 3 kids, but by approx 1890 the 2 girls had ran off to liverpool to board a ship, he followed to get them back, however he took ill and was in st helens, when he met another lady, he never returned to oldland, and abandoned his family there, only to start a new family, the harding name was taken from the premises he bought in st helens already displaying the harding sign on the shop, and it was cheaper to change his name than get a new sign made!!!! it also helped him to go untraced by his ex family. that was till i came along!!!!! lol.
