I've been looking at a different branch of my tree & have found 4 out of the 5 shildren have been baptised first of all at St Peters - just after birth & then up to 10 years later (all on the same date) at Our Lady of Mount Carmel (catholic ones)
I dont know if this has been asked before but would there be a reason for baptising them twice in different religions

Not an expert but I would think there was a conversion to RC by the parents or it may have been a mixed marriage and the children were not baptised RC as they usually were in such cases. There is sometimes a note on the baptism certificate when the event is not immediately following the birth but some years later.

Possibly also as a consequence of a mixed marriage, might be the school the children went to, and if they came up to confirmation age in the RC religion, evidence of baptism might have been required. The first child might have been in this situation so perhaps they "re-did" the lot as they knew the same question would be asked when it came to the others turn.
But also the couple may have both been RC but chose St Peter's for the original baptism because of the church's status.

Thanks both of you. I've not found a marriage for the parents yet but will have a look later. I know one of the children married in Our Lady of Mount Carmel as there is a note on the baptism register giving the name of the groom & the date of marriage.
