Alfred was the young man who came to Australia in 1859 and is my GG grandfather. I have had lots more success with the other branches of this tree, but am stuck at Thomas Winterburn. Would appreciate any information or hints.

Thanks

The banns for the marrriage were called at Eccleston as Thomas was of that parish

This is the Eccleston near Leyland/Chorley

Of the children you have only found 2 baptisms is that correct? How do you know the other children were the children of Thomas?

I gather from the 2 baptisms Thomas was a mason is that correct?

Thomas Winterburn born 24 July 1788 christened 31August 1788 son of Thomas and Jane Winterburn chrietened at All Saints Childwall

At the same church William Winterburn christened 29 April 1792 son of Thomas and Jennett Winterburn.

And also Mary daughter of Thomas Winterborn christened 21 Dec 1785

The actual entries would probably confirm that father was a mason or not.

St Mary the Virgin Eccleston registers are very well represented on the www.lan-opc.org.uk site. Unfortunately the only Winterborn/Winterburn entry isthat of the banns of Thomas. This suggests to me that he had not been born there but was perhaps from further afield.

I think I have found baptisms for the other children in Childwall, Lancashire - they list the parents as Thomas Winterburn/Winterbourn and Ginnett/Jane - I am thinking this is a possible interpretation of Jennet.

I do have the record of the reading of the banns also - and this makes sense as I have Jennet Smith baptism record in Ormskirk. I am a little bit unfamiliar with all the different parishes.... they keep moving borders too, which makes it hard!

I believe that the Winterburn family were Masons.... although Alfred was a Taylor

Thanks for your help
