Trying to trace the birth of Thomas William Rush

Hi

I wonder if someone can give me some advice of how I track down the birth of my great grandfather Thomas Rush.
On Ancestry I have found details of his baptism in the Parish of Holy Cross on 19th November 1889 and this also shows that he was born on 3rd November 1889. His parents were James and Agnes Rush.

The problem I have is that I cannot find a trace of his birth to be able to order a certificate, I know possibly he may not have been registered but as the youngest of six children that were all registered it seems unlikely.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated!

Hi,
I am wondering if his birth was registered outside Liverpool? Found this one in the right quarter...
RUSH, Thomas
Registration district: Salford, Lancashire
Year/qtr of registration: 1889 / Oct-Nov-Dec
Volume no: 8D; Page no: 18.

If you want to take a chance on buying the cert, you should specify the parents' names. You can do this by ticking the No box to the question: Is the GRO Index Reference Number known? even though you do know it. A new page will open with boxes for parents' names. If the Salford entry is not your Thomas the GRO will refund approximately half of the purchase fee. On the other hand, since they will search 1 year either side of 1889, they may find your Thomas.

I think the Thomas Rush born in Salford shows on census as born in Pendleton so I'm not convinced he's yours.

Your Thomas Rush seems to be listed as Thomas W Rush or Thomas William Rush in 1891 and possibly 1911. He also seems to have died as Thomas W Rush in 1962.

I would just apply to the GRO for a birth certificate of Thomas or Thomas William Rush parents James and Agnes born on 3 November 1889 in Liverpool area. They will then just search with that information.

There's a burial 2 Jan 1963 in Yew Tree Cemetry for a Thomas William Rush is this your man?

We also know that errors are made between Liverpool and the GRO, so if that search fails perhaps it would be a good idea to approach the Liverpool Register Office and ask them the same question - be aware that they may take a little longer than the GRO but at least you would know if the birth was registered in Liverpool.

Thanks for your responses.

Yes the Thomas buried in Yew Tree cemetry is the correct one, my great grandmother was also buried there three months later.

I think I will try the Liverpool Register office first as all the info I have shows him as being born in Liverpool.

Thanks for your help
