I have a marriage for Frances Willis & Thomas Corness\Corner\Cormer 3Q 1886 (8b 88) at St. Michael in the city. I would like to know the name of the groom’s father and his occupation.
I also have Catherine Daley married to Thomas Corness\Corless on 11 Nov 1888 (8b 193) but cannot find the church a good guess would be St. Oswalds where their first child was baptised. Groom’s fathers name is John (that would be right) could anyone find any more details on either of these marriages. Cannot find any more on the sites I use.
Thanks Linda

Hi Linda,
Lancashire BMD site (
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/cgi/marrind.cgi) shows Catherine Daley and Thomas Corless were married at St Peters.

If you can't find the marriage in the Ancestry collection of Liverpool Parish Registers the only option left to get that info is to buy the marriage cert from the GRO in Southport using the GRO reference you already have.
The groom's surname in the Marriage Index is Corner.
CORNER, Thomas [appears to have married Willis, Frances]
Registration district: Liverpool
Year/qtr of registration: 1886 / Jul-Aug-Sep
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 88

Hi
The IGI Pilot site has one of the marriages and shows both fathers names but suspect you already have this info

Tina If you mean the first Thomas's wife Frances surname, it is Willis.
Linda if you are trying to work out which of them is yours, cheaper than ordering the cert from the GRO would be the Record Office who should have the Registers for the church.

Thanks to all for your input. Yes I am trying to work out which one is mine, I do not live in Liverpool so will add it to my long list for my next visit there.

Hi Mary
Sorry to confuse, I didn't mean brides surname, I meant Thomas', how it will be transcribed.
Looks like Catherine one of the brides is the right one in 1891 census.
Now to find Frances..
1891 Thomas Cornes amended to Corner in Anx by member, 26 carter
Frances 25
9 Cadrington? St West Derby (I've found Moira St & Shepherd in Directories which were close by)
also bro in law Robert A 25 transcribed as Stills, reads Willis.
John Stills 22, nephew Richard Stills 3yrs.
RG12/2987/66/40.

I'm hoping some info here may help Linda. A name here and there?
Thos & Frances in 1901 don't have any children.
They have their two bro in laws and another 2 nephews.
If Linda's family is a direct line from Thomas, possibly Frances is not the correct bride?
Thomas Corner bn 1866

I agree with Tina's thoughts about a direct line from Thomas. None of the censuses from the marriage of Thomas Corner and Frances Willis show children. In the 19ssshhh census Frances is a widow with no Corner children in the household at 6 Fitzclarence Street, Everton. There are 6 children there all 'belonging' to Anne Jane Williams [49 - widow] Frances' sister.
Deaths Mar 1909: CORNER, Thomas - 43 - W. Derby - 8b - 404.
EDITED TO ADD: Between 1888 and 1909 I found 9 deaths of Corner children born in LIverpool between those dates. Some of them could be children of Thomas and Frances.

Hi,
Thomas Corness\Corner is my Grandfathers brother, I am struggling to find out about him and also his brother John Born in 1874 who is on the 1891 census age 16. There is also a John Corner born the same year and married Maud Massey I know this is not him. Thanks for all your help.
