The Royal School for the Blind, Liverpool

I am currently in my 3rd year at University writing a dissertation about the Liverpool & Bristol Blind Schools that were established at the end of the 18th century.
I am trying to trace any members who may have had ancestors who attended these schools during the 19th century.
I am particulerly interested in what happened to them after they left the schools.
If anyone has any information I would be extremely grateful if you would contact me.

You may find records of Admissions and Applications at the Record Office. These might have some details of those people who left and if they managed to be placed in any employment. Meantime good luck.

Welcome to the forum and all the best with your studies.
I was born in Wavertree and can remember the children from the Blind School
in Church Road walking through the park, roped together, with their carers telling
them all about the trees, birds, trains going over the railway.
Yes I did know how lucky I was

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. I have managed to piece together some information from the census records but am having trouble tracking any personal records. The history of the blind schools from the pupils perspective in the 19th C has been seriously neglected (And now I see why !) There were extremely high levels of illiteracy amongst the blind (Braille was not common until the very end of the 19thC) so very little was recorded from the perspective of the blind, but I am determined to find something somewhere !
Thanks
Sarah

Unless you approach the school directly with any sort of success, the only other place that records would have been deposited, I believe, would be the Liverpool Record Office.
http://liverpool.gov.uk/libraries-and-a ... y-history/ but that seems so obvious I'm sure you have already approached them.
