Location issues / birth certificate query

Trying to track the best certificate to buy for my G G Grandfather's birth.
William Joseph LYONS 1883/1884- 17 Feb 1929
In the 1911 census (10 College Street East Everton) he states that he was born in CROSBY, Lancashire.
I want to get his birth certificate so i can track his father down and continue along that branch of the tree, but unsure which William LYONS birth certificate to purchase (there are a few).
Can anyone help out? What area's are covered by Crosby that would show up on a birth certificate? (I have searched but nothing solid has come up). Someone suggested W.Derby, but then someone else said that would be a waste.
The father is James LYONS, this is from William's marriage certificate in 1911 to Henrietta Adelaide STROH. He is listed as a labourer.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers.

Crosby came under the registration district of West Derby. There is only one registration for 1883/84 in the West Derby District see below
March qtr
Lyons William West Derby 8b 596
When you apply for the certificate put down as much information that you know. Fathers name, occupation and maiden name of his mother if known. They will only issue the certificate if the information is correct. Joseph could have been his confirmation name.

Hi folks

and a warm welcome to D.L
On the marriage cert at St Nicks, W.J.L was living in Cavendish St, it doesn't state his father was deceased, although we all know it doesn't always state this.
(Henrietta in Rowe St)
Expect some advice from Mary about posting info from the census taken 10 yrs after 1901.
I'm not sure what the latest is.

William is only listed as William Lyons on the 1911. When did the Joseph appear?
I can see a Willia Lyons in Crosby in the 1891 census but he doesn't have a father James.

He's born Lpool, not sure about the Crosby in the other census, there are some numbers
listed, perhaps an error?

The marriage is actually 25 December, 1906, in St Nicholas and he gives his age as 23. In case it's of any help, William's occupation was a Cooper and the witnesses were Jessie Marie Clifford and Nellie Mabley.

Thanks guys.
It is quite confusing as the 'Joseph' only appears on the marriage certificate, death certificate and on his plaque.
In the 1911 census which I have (which I know is him due to wife and children) it's just listed as William LYONS.
I really know nothing about James, or any possible siblings or other children. The only info I have is from William and Henrietta's marriage on 25 Dec 1906 stating his name and profession (sorry Mary A I meant 1906 not 1911).
I've just purchased the W. Derby certificate. Hoping hoping hoping it's the right one!

Please tell us you have followed Katie's advice above and stipulated that you only want the certificate if the father's name is correct ........

I never knew you could do that actually. I've always just found the reference and purchased it from that.
