Hi,
I'm looking for all information on my grandmother Minnie Draper and the family line and all other information.
Born in Leigh Lancashire on or about 1898.
There is a Minnie Draper sailed 26 June 1908 aboard the Empress of Britain, from Liverpool to Quebec
The list is:
Ellen Draper 16, dom
Florence Draper 14, dom
Minnie Draper 10, child
Sarah Draper 4, child
Further up the list is Mrs Draper, wife, 39 not accompanied by husband.
Minnie married Clark McKenzie and had 6 children.
This is all the information that I have at this time.
All help is deeply appreciate.
Lori McKenzie, daughter of Minnie's son Morris Dewey McKenzie

There are 2 Minnie Drapers born around the time frame you suggest. One listed below registered in the Leigh district. The other registered in ormskirk in 1898. This one is shown as being born in Skelnmersdale and is listed with her parents Joseh and Margaret in the 1901 and 1911 census living in Skelmersdale. She cannot be the Minnie of the shipping list.

Looking to see if I could find Florence, I found this family in 1901
159 Alder Lane Hindley
Robert Draper 42 coal hewer bn Hindley
Sarah wife 43 Billinge
Ellen daur 15 calico dyer bn Bolton
Hannah daur 9 bn Wigan
Florence daur 7 bn Wigan
Minnie daur 4 bn Leigh
Sarah daur 2 months
I suggest that if Minnie and sisters can be found in the 1911 Canadian census and have parents Robert and Sarah this is the family.
Minnie's marriage certificate should give her father's name. Is it Robert?
If it turns out to be this family the information I gave at the beginning will enable you to get Minnie's birth certifcate.
The above family does not appear to be in the 1911 census. Robert probably went before his family.

In 1908 when they sailed to Canada
their children were
Ellen 16 bn 1892
Florence 14 bn 1894
Minnie 10 bn 1898
Sarah bn 1904
Their ages don't match the 1901 census.
Something wrong??

Hi and welcome to the forum - I know you have found us via the Facebook page.
I think the vital piece of information we need here is Minnie's father's name, it appears almost certain that she had left England before marrying, so we hope you are able to find the marriage details which should give his name.

Nice one Blue, gives the lead to the 1911 Canadian Census
Kootenay, British Columbia
Robert Draper Head M Dec 1854/9? 53 England 1907 English Canadian Baptist Rancher 6-0-03 16 16 years Ranch Yes Yes E
Sarah Wife M May 1856 54 England 1908 English Canadian Baptist None Yes Yes E
Hannah Matthews daur M Dec 1885 25 England 1909 ditto for the rest
Minnie Draper daur S Aug 1897 14 England 1908 "
Sarah " daur S Jan 1901 10 "
Census Place: Fernie, Kootenay, British Columbia; Page: 8; Family No: 70.
Added after I found out the headings
The month and year are dates of birth, next comes age, then birthplace (ie England) Year of immigration to Canada, so it seems Hannah came a year later ?, Racial or Tribal Origin (England), Nationality (Canadian), Religion (Baptist). Chief occupation (Rancher for Robert), Employment, usefully seems to have put the date, Employer No, Employee Yes, Working on own account No, Place employed Ranch, Can Read Yes, Can Write Yes, Language commonly spoken E (English presumably?)
The examples I have given were in the entry for Robert.

The marriage for Robert Draper and Sarah Brown took place in St. George, Wigan, in 1879.
It would be advisable for you to order the certificate so that the information contained in it may be able to take you further back. You can order this online at

Good, where was that? on the Lancs OPC?

Hi Mary,
It was on Lancs OPC. No sign of a baptism for Minnie in Leigh in 1896 if they were baptists in Canada I suppose we wouldn't expect to find her in the Church of England records anyway.
I've noticed two trees for this family on Anc I wouldn't lift from either as I spotted some anomalies after just a little look at them.

Yes, I'm always skeptical about trees on Ancestry too.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me in my search for information.
I have found my grandmothers Marriage Registrations.
familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Aminnie%7E%20%2Bsurname%3Adraper%7E%20%2Bmarriage_place%3A%22british%20columbia%22%7E&marriage_place0=4
My search is also for my family line that didn't leave England.
I hope to put together a detailed family tree for my children and grandchildren and for any other family members looking for their roots.

Hi Lori,
I received a message from "JOANBYTHERIVER1":-
"Minnie Draper was my mother's sister. Minnie was born in Leigh, Greater Manchester, Lancashire in the year of 1896.
She came to Canada in 1908 with her family from England.
Her married name was Minnie McKenzie."
Joan knows Minnie was born in 1896 but she currently has Minnie being born in 1881 on her tree. I've told her about the mistake on her tree.

Another message:-
Hi. Thanks for letting me know about the mistake on Minnie's birthdate. I had a reply typed for you, but my computer blipped before I could send the message, maybe you received it. Anyway I am going to list Minnie's children on the Draper tree. There were six children in the family. Only two daughter's are living. I talked to Minnie's daughter today and told he someone was researching her mother. She thinks it could be on the
McKenzie side and she is right. Contact me if you need more information. Thanks Joan

I was wondering if you talked with Leona or Clara? I just found out that my Aunt Clara had passed and I just found my Aunt Leona.
Cheers,
