Working on my data base for 1916 and I have the following soldier

Regiment: South Lancashire Regiment
Surname: Barry
Number: 19932
Forename: Joseph
Rank: Private
Resides: Warrington
Cause: Died of Wounds

This soldier appeared in a list dated 7th September 1916. I was unable to find a record for him on CWGC.

Using the new search criteria on the new CWGC site were you can now search by number. I got the following casualty.

2nd South Lancashire Regiment
Torrance
19932
Archibald
Private
21st July 1916
Buried at St.Sever Cemetery Rouen
Son of John and Mary Torrance. Served in the South African Campaign

http://www.cwgc.org/search-for-war-dead ... 0ARCHIBALD

I cross checked SDGW and there is no entry for a Archibald Torrance, however I did find the following.

Barry
19932
Joseph
Private
Born Manchester
Enlisted: Warrington
Died of Wounds 21st July 1916

Daggers, Steve and Military buffs do you think Archibald Torrance and Joseph Barry are one and the same? To much of a coincidence to me.

Thats great he must have served as Private Joseph Barry. His birth was registered as Archibald Torrance. Should help his relatives or any one researching the local war memorial to identify him on the CWGC

Thanks Jan. Should be noted on CWGC that he served as Private Joseph Barry. Another correction to go on my list. Cheers.

I think he also got married as Joseph Barry in Warrington
