The date of death 23/7/16 is on St. Elizabeth's for G. Schorah.
James Collins is on CWGC and FMP Military with Reg and S.No identical. On FMP he was Born and resided Liverpool and enlisted Southampton.
Can any of our Military Buffs explain why he has not been listed again, maybe as an alias on CWGC?[/img]

If you can find his service records on Ancestry you may find confirmation that he enlisted under a false name - far from rare. Sadly 2/3 records were burned in the WW2 blitz as you probably know.

I haven't had any luck with service records in either name, hence the query! I don't understand what the CRV and NU/1/1167 etc on the card mean or the W776/Bd/29. Seems to have been reissued as Schorah but no mention on CWGC.
These cards are a real riddle to me, not being military minded. Family History and census returns are OK I can understand them.

I believe those letters and numbers are references to correspondence or internal notes which will not now exist.
Sorry I can't throw any more light.

G Schorah

The only male 'local' G Schorah that shows up in the 19** is this one...
Births Sep 1899: Schorah, George Joseph - Liverpool - 8b - 9.
Parents:
Marriages Jun 1893 - Liverpool - 8b - 87: Hunter, Margaret and Schorah, James Joseph.
1901:
SCHORAH, James - Head - Married - 26 - General Carter - Lpool.
SCHORAH, Margaret - Wife - 24 - Lpool.
SCHORAH, Frances - Dtr - 6 - Lpool.
SCHORAH, Hannah - Dtr - 3 - Lpool.
SCHORAH, George - Son - 1 - Lpool.
SCHORAH, John - Son - (1 MOS) - Lpool.
HIBBOTSON, Thomas - Boarder - U/m - 79 - Tin Plate Cleaner - Lpool.
Address: 24 Cazneau Street, Liverpool.
RG13 - Piece:3407 - Folio:32 - Page:56
He was barely 17 when he died so probably used the James Collins alias when he enlisted at 16 if he thought the recruiters had a means of checking for his DoB. The alias was probably discovered a while after his death and as Daggers says there would be internal memos etc, and letters exchanged to sort out the situation and have his record card reissued.

Thanks for your input Daggers, Dickiesam and Steviebyday,
I have received information that his family name was James Collins and that he had joined up whilst underage, so this is the reason that he is down as G. Schorah. The family were at Beechwood Road, Litherland, but I haven't been told what date they were there but it does give Litherland so I can add this information to the biography for this soldier.
I had found that 1901 Census and as I know that a Schorah family attended St. Elizabeth's school when I was there I was hoping to find the link. He is down on St Elizabeth's memorial and Litherland Civic as G Schorah not J. or James Collins. There is also an index card for James Collins with the identical information on Reg. and S.No.

I'll have to do a bit more digging on this as there is a George Schorah born Nov 1893 baptised at All Souls, Collingwood Street. Parents are George and Frances Schorah (Nee Lynch) can't locate him on the 1901 census.
In 1911 there is a George Schoarh born 1894 listed as a boarder with a Benjamin Hopley
Also on the 1901 Census there is a George Schorah who is the son of Josiah and Jane Schorah (nee Cain)
Piece: 3482
Folio: 27
Page Number: 46
Cant find a baptism for him.
I need to do some digging on this.

There seems to be a big Puzzle with this family. Some of the children were baptised Catholic and some C of E. I was unable to locate a marriage for A George Schorah to a Frances Lynch. I did find a marriage of a
George Anthony Schorah to a Frances Quinn Sept qtr 1873.
There was also another child baptised 1891 of a Mary Schorah daughter of George and Frances Schorah (nee Lynch) at St. Joseph's
In 1911 residing with Benjamin Hopley are
John Schoarh aged 15
George Schoarh aged 16
Tim Schoarh aged 11
Fanny aged 10
1901 Census 22, Cazenau Street
George Scorah aged 46
Fanny Scorah aged 45
Hanny aged 12 (Hannah)
Mary aged 9
I'll have to come back to this.

I have been able to rule out the George Joseph Schorah born 1899 as being Killed in WW1 as he got married in 1920.
June qtr 1920
George Joseph Schorah West Derby 8b 898
Helena Bainbridge West Derby 8b 898
I checked the 1916/1917 Gores directory for Beechwood Road, Bootle and there are no Schorah/Collins listed there.
Also checked Roll of Honour notices to see if the family place a announcement non published.

It seems that the George Joseph Schorah who married Helena Bainbridge died in 1978,
apart from a spelling mistake probably by whoever was the informant...
Death: SCORAH, George Joseph
Registration district: Liverpool
Year of registration: 1978; Dec qtr
Date of Birth: 4 July 1899
