I have found Creer St., Liverpool 5, off Gt.Homer St., in an old A-Z. Does anyone know if this street still exists?

Not showing up on www.maps.google.co.uk I'm afraid, nor on the maps on the Liverpool History Projects site, which was around 1901 ish.

In a 1930s street atlas Creer Street is indexed, with 'Virgil St' in italics, meaning it was too small to show on the map. Much of that area has been redeveloped since then, some more than once, I think.

Just to confirm Dagger's post, I 'knew' Great Homer Street well in the late 1940s and early 1950s, my dad had a business there opposite Paddy's Market at what was the Juvenal Street end. Today there's virtually nothing left of the old Great Homer Street. Virgil Street is there on Google Earth but nothing like what it was. Even the lovely pub, where my dad took me for a Bass shandy, on the corner with Great Homie has gone!

Morning,

MaryA, daggers and dickiesam, thanks for your help, which is appreciated.

I had hoped there would have been buildings left to photograph..................perhaps I will be able to find pics in archives?

I did look at the online catalogue of Liverpool Record Office but this didn't show any results.

I would think, due to the era the street might have existed, that a site such as http://inacityliving.piczo.com/?cr=7 might have something. Although the author says there is a new index on some pages, if there is one I haven't yet found it so when you open a page do an Alt E> (Edit) F (Find) to search down the page easily.

Liverpool Record Office have a printed index of all the streets they hold photos of. The index is at their temporary office at Sandhills. As far as I am aware you have to go there to have a look at it, having first made an appointment.

I'd give them a ring and ask.
