Coroner's reports

I know that my gt.grandfather committed suicide and wonder if the coroner's report would be available or if not would it be possible to find a newspaper report about the death, preferably online as I don't live in Liverpool. Thank you:-)
Details.....
John SMITH aged 48 years
Dead body found 20/07/1913 field off Carr Lane, W. Derby
Found drowned in pit of water. Suicide unsound mind. Missing since previous day.
Certificate received from S. Brighouse, Coroner for Lancashire. Inquest held 21/07/1913

There are some records held at the Record Office, however, the catalogue isn't very specific with dates. I would suggest you send an email to enquire

You will need to know if they have them, whether they are on microfilm or document form as they are still temporarily separated between the World Museum or the satellite centre at Sandhills.

Also, I'm sorry to say that you will not be lucky with the date you are looking for in online newspapers as the site stops at 1900.

There may be a report in the Evening Express or the Weekly Courier, its a case of looking and seeing if the local media thought it a worth reporting.

According to the Liverpool Record Office's Coroners' Records Information Leaflet PDF of 2008 Inquest Papers are only available for Liverpool for the years 1937-1985*.

*New deposits are received at regular intervals (for events after 1985).

Inquest Registers are available for Liverpool for the years 1852-1865 and 1898-1970 on microfilm only:-

"These registers provide basic information including date, place and cause of death."

Hi everybody,
Many thanks for your responses to my question.
It seems I will have to pay a visit to Liverpool at some point....once I know where the newspaper reports are at the moment

I hope they turn out to be at the World Museum as I have no idea where Sandhills is and therefore how to get there

As I already have the date, place and cause of death I guess there's not much point in looking at the inquest registers, but I appreciate the information
