i did ask about this family yesterday but did not give all the right information so here goes
i am looking for the father of
thomas carroll born in dublin 1846
catherine wray born in dublin 1848
they married in dublin in 1865

i got this information from the english census 1881 as they moved to liverpool shortly after
Thomas s mother was jane born in dublin in 1821
she also moved to liverpool with them she was widowed by then
i am looking for a site that might give me more information but seem
to come up against a brick wall
i hope this makes sense i usually get the wrong end of the stick!!!!

Whose birth certificate do you have to confirm that Catherine's surname was Wray?

Unless I have the wrong family from the 1881 census.

St Nicholas RC Baptism of Thomas Boyd Carroll born 16 March 1871 and baptised 25 March 1871 - parents Thomas and Catherine Carroll (maiden name Beattey)
Godmother Elizabeth Beatty

William Boyd Carroll Parents Thomas & Catherine Carroll (maiden name Beaty)

Although it could be coincidental there is a marriage of Elizabeth Beatty to Alexander Williams at St Mary's Walton in 1873

Same church as William
4 August 1880 baptised 19 August
Charlotte Carroll parents Thomas & Catherine Carroll maiden name Beaty

For the census entries mary has given I would suggest these baptisms are significant

Joanna (Jane) bn 23 Nov 1868 ch 15 Dec 1868 St Joseph daur of Thomas and Catherine Carroll

Lucia (Lucy) bn 11 Feb 1875 ch 17 Feb 1875 at St Francis xavier daur of Thomas Carroll and Catherine Beattie

Are we looking at the correct family? We need to know were the Wray comes from.

You need speedy fingers around here. From the clues given, ie ages of Thomas and Catherine and the mother Jane, I believe we have the correct family in 1881, so I don't at this moment know where the name Wray has come from unless Catherine was a widow when she married Thomas? All clues point to her being Beatty. There is a very short space of time I suppose Mary Teresa could be Thomas's stepdaughter .....

Do we know Thomas's father's name yesterday you said he was called Thomas? If it's not another Thomas and we don't know could this be Thomas's baptism in Dublin in 1845 (NB: Irish Genealogy ie website will be adding original images in the near future so further information may become available from these records):-

i willl do a double check on catherine the wife and see what turns up
i do know charlotte the daughter was my grandmother and william carroll her brother was the captain william carroll who i was searching info
regarding his M Medal in 1917 thhis has been confirmed so i will now
do so more checking

If Charlotte's known birth date is as above this could be the proof.
