Hello All,
I believe my Father was an Auxiliary Fireman (maybe he was a Fire watcher) in Liverpool in the last war. I do know he lived and worked near the docks. Could someone please tell me if there are any sites I could go on to find possible service record, or indeed anything that would point me in the right direction.
Anything would be very much appreciated.

As recently as WWII I don't think you will get any records online, however, doing a bit of a google I came across an interesting site, I have no idea whether there might be anything of interest on it.

Fire-watchers probably had no offcial status, just as volunteers for their workplace etc. Auxiliary Firemen would be worked for the Auxiliary Fire Service, which I think later became National Fire Service. They would be part-timers working locally to where they lived.
Not sure where any records would be now.

The records for Auxillery Fireman are held in the Merseyside Record Office Collection, cant remember the ref of hand. They are closed as they are under a 100 years. If you get in touch with the research officer at Sandhills he will be able to advise on gaining access.

Thank You all for that info. much appreciated. I will dive into the sites MaryA supplied, and also contact Sandhills. I know so little of my Father's war years except that his first wife and 3 young children were wiped out in the Blitz of May 1940. The cage bird they had survived when the blast that flattened their house blew it across the street and it finished up in the front room of the house opposite.
