Does your information give her date of birth and which county she was born in or any more information about where in Ireland? Were there any other members of the family living with them, or do any of the older family members remember any detail of where the family said they were from?

There are quite a number of Irish sites, some of which are searchable for free, such as www.familysearch.org which has the BMD indexes, similar to our own. Also if you google you will find that the 1901 census for Ireland is free online.

Hi Maureen

Family Search have civil registration records but for earlier events you would need to find parish records. Some parish records are provided online but it can be a quite expensive process without guaranteed results. It can be very difficult to find records some parish records don't exist at all for the dates you may want. Brady is a difficult surname to research my lot came from the Brady home county of Cavan it's like being called Jones in Wales. Here are some links:-

I have also found http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ to be good for Dublin, there are sub boards for Dublin City etc. and also Ireland Obits and Monumental Inscriptions. You can register for their mailing lists get the digest straight to your mailbox.

There are many cemeteries that have had their gravestones transcribed and this could well assist your search.

Hi Maureen,
The Mulhudded is almost certain to be Mulhuddart, in north County Dublin, close to the border with County Meath. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulhuddart

This is a site with a transcription of some graves in Mulhuddart Cemetery.

Re the Bladestone bit... I know of a Blackstone but not Bladestone. If this is on a census page can you post the page reference so we can see it. If the census is the 1911, then just post details of names, ages and address from the page as an alternative.

He was born in County Meath about 1883 according to the last available UK census. So it does look like he was born near to the border of County Dublin and Meath. His birth/baptism could well be recorded in either county.

Bladestone could be either Blakestown or Blanchardstown.

Until I saw he was born in County Meath I was looking at the following baptism index on Roots Ireland. The location is nearer to central Dublin but at least on the north side. I suppose they could have travelled for the baptism in the same way people in Toxteth or Everton would go to St Peter's in Liverpool. I'm not really confident about any of the possible baptisms or births on Roots Ireland or Family Search:-

William Joseph Brady
St Paul's Arran Quay RC
1884

Hi MaureenB,
This site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulhuddart actually mentions Mulhuddart, Blakestown and Blanchardstown, virtually in the same breath. Each place is within 15 minutes or so of the other. So I would be fairly confident you are in the right area.

If you have the certificate for his marriage...
Marriages Mar 1911> Brady, William J and Lockwood, Elizabeth A - W.Derby - 8b - 561.
What was his father's name and occupation?

Hi,
Clontarf is today a suburb of Dublin city, located on the coast of Dublin Bay.

Where was William in 1901? If we had his father's name we might find him in Liverpool. If he hadn't arrived in Liverpool by April 1901 he should be in the Irish 1901 census. Did he have any siblings that you know of?

I think it is Mulhuddart and Blakestown County Dublin. Here is some background information. William being a Cowman fits in with his rural background:-
