Hello,

Does anyone have any pictures of St Silas Church, Pembroke Place please. I am happy to pay for any copies etc.

A number of my ancestors were baptised there but in all the books I have looked in I cannot find a picture.

'The Churches of Liverpool' by David Lewis has many photos but not of St Silas. As it was very well researched, I think it unlikely that one will have remained in the city Record Office, but hope someone can come up with one for you.

I like that weebly site Blue, some good pictures on there.

Sorry to put a dampener on those images, but neither is the church once in Pembroke Place, as both are Toxteth.

St Silas,
Pembroke Place,
Liverpool
Lancashire
The church has/had a graveyard. It was founded in 1811. It closed in 1941.

My ancestors were living in Crown Street, Sherdley Place and the area.

There were two CofE churches in Liverpool called St Silas. One was in Pembroke Place near London Road. Its marriage registers are at Lpool RO, ref 283 SIL/3, microfilmed, listed as 1843-1944.
The other was in High Park St, Toxteth Park. Registers 1865-1958 also at Lpool RO, ref 283 SLS /3...

St Silas, Pembroke Place, was created a district chapel or church in 1843 from, and lying within the civil boundaries of Liverpool St Peter and St Nicholas, Lancashire Ecclesiastical Parish.

The foundation stone for the church was laid 5 June 1840 and the church was consecrated 1 October 1841. The parish was amalgamated in 1930 with St Columba and St Simon. In 1941 the church was badly damaged by enemy action and demolished in 1942.

I have JPEGs of the St Silas Church in High Park Street Toxteth, my Manx Great Grandparents were married there, so was drawn to this thread but as it's been pointed out this is a different St Silas. Ringo Starr went to the Toxteth St Silas church school.

There is a map showing the layout of St Silas, Pembroke Place in the Alan Godfrey series - Liverpool Sheet 25, which covers the London Road area - in a larger scale than their usual reprints. It covers the period 1846 -64.

I have ordered 2 maps from the Family History site so I hope that they too have this location.

It must be where the new shops (could be student accommodation above) are in Pembroke Road, use www.maps.google.co.uk and choose street view, between Anson Street and Daulby Street, you will see they are all very new buildings.
