Elizabeth Riley not so elusive now

AT LAST... :D I have found my Grandmother Elizabeth Riley baptism in the A......Y Liverpool parish records....her name was transcribed as Royle as were her 2 sisters and a brother...she was born 9th May which I knew to be correct but I could never find her as Riley or any derivative of that name. I am over the moon because I have looked for years and bought quite a few birth certs all to no avail.

I do have a question though please if I order her birth cert would I now give her name as Royle...(( because they could never come up with a Riley))...sounds a silly question

Thank you for all the past help for her... I'm so excited :) Ann :)

Great news!

As you now have her date of birth etc have a look on www.freebmd.org.uk and see if there is a registration under Royle for the right quarter and registration district. If there is that should be the correct registration but just to make sure I'd perhaps send a request with a covering letter with parent's names etc or ring them up.

Bear in mind that sometimes babies were not registered due to lack of money, if they could escape, however most were baptised, partly for religious reasons, but also so that if necessary the child was part of the parish and so it was hoped that help would always be available in the form of Parish Relief.

Thanks Hilary and PJ...have had a look at fbmd and noooooooo shes not there well not in Liverpool

Mary ...thats something that could possibly be right because I have found a death for her father in the same year. I suppose I will never know but there does seem to be only one Elizabeth Royle ((no Elizabeth Riley)) baptised about 1885 born on the 9th May.. this from the Parish Records
I have been down every avenue with Elizabeth for years... like you do...and I think taking everything I already know about the family and the records I have into account I may just go with my gut feeling ...Or will I :?: :?:

Thank You Ann :)

Hi,
There's another common 'phonetic' spelling of Royle. This is in the right quarter...

Birth: ROYAL, Elizabeth.
Registration District: West Derby, Lancashire.
Year/qtr of registration: 1885 / Apr-May-Jun
Volume No: 8B; Page No: 332.
