Can any kind person trace the location from an entry in the 1841 census entry of Purdon, William John at 'Bath Villa', which was then in the parish of Childwall, township of Garston, possibly in or near Aigburth Vale. There may be clues from adjoining entries.
The reference is, I hope: HO107 Piece: 511; Book/Folio: 5/46; Page: 10 .
Thanks as ever.

I can't see any William John or Jones on the page you gave however Ancestry does index a William John broker on HO107 511 Book 5 Folio 35 page 18. He is a broker aged 29 and living in the Ryan household on Beechwood Road Aigburth Garston Childwall. I would have said his name was Jones.
He is shown as William Jones Beechwood Road on another census provider.
I can't see any mention of Bath Villa.

Hi Daggers
In 1843 Directory William John Purdon is the incumbent for St Anne's Church, Aigburth Road.
He is listed as living at Aigburth Vale, Aigburth.
Can't see a mention of Bath Villas.
Hilary, in the 1841 he is listed as Wm Jn Purdon!!
Cheers

Thanks Erika not awake obviously!
Address given on another site is just Bath Villa Aigburth Garston Childwall. The actual census page doesn't give an address.

Hilary and Erika - many thanks for your efforts. I should have remembered that piece about Bath Villas in the useful 'Liverpool Schools' site as I put it there!
Perhaps it was owned by one of the local bigwigs of the day and rented to to the vicar when he first arrived and later to the school couple.
Could you see what addresses appear before and after the Purdon entry? That might help in tying down the Bath Villa location. It is shown on a map, but the name covers several hundred yards!

From:

St Anne's School, Aigburth Vale - 1839:
No 18 Aigburth Vale, near the junction with Elmswood Rd. Richard DAGLISH has given me lots of information about this school! The building was completed in June 1839 and the Infants’ building in 1855. In 1900, average attendance was about 450 pupils. By the 1930s, numbers were declining. The school finally closed in the early 1960s; the buildings were demolished.
So Bath Villa(s) wouldn't that far away from Elmswood Rd/Aigburth Vale. In 1841 it starts immediately after property on Aigburth Vale on HO107 piece 511 folio 5/42 page 2 and continues via 20 pages to HO107 piece 511 folio 5/52 Page 22 [thru' a couple of different Folios]. So a lot of people living there.
Need a map expert!

1851 census gives William Purdon at No.3 Front Lane, Aigburth Vale
Edward Orme - the school master is also listed in Front Lane, but don't think there is a number.
Looks like Bath Villas became Front Lane, but in 1860 directory no sign of William or Edward and nothing listed for Front Lane
New incumbent at St Annes Rev Henry Teush Hecker
