Hi, I am trying to trace my stepfathers family. His name is Kenneth OWEN (b) 23 May 1927, Woolton. His parents were Eliza NIXON & William OWEN (m) 1925.
Eliza's parents surnames were NIXON & COLLINS and William's parents names were William OWEN & RICHARDSON.
I am trying to find any living family members as my Step father is 84 this year and is looking at going back to Liverpool for a holiday and if I can put him in contact with any family members that would be great.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. Tracing a living relative is something that we are often asked about and we have tried to put together a few hints on this post

Hi Mary
Thank you for your quick reply. I have have already been on Ancestry, Find My Past &* Genes Reuinted, but unfortuately due to having very limited information on the OWEN & NIXON families, I am finding it very difficult on my search. I will try the old Liverpool phone directories and see how I go there.
But if anyone has any information of the OWEN & NIXON families (and not necessary living relatives), any family connection would be appreciated, so that I can compile my stepfathers ancestor family tree
.
Thanks

The post I gave above had suggestions for local newspapers also, there was a link to the Liverpool Echo forum online where people are often searching for family members.

The marriage for William Owen appears to have been in Q3 1925 Liverpool 8b 551, this seems to have been to a Lila Nixon, however I don't see a birth of a Lila so perhaps this was a very badly written Eliza.
If you wish us to help trace the family backwards, you will need to give us the birthdates from the marriage certificate, that it seems as though you have, and the father's details would help also.
These details might also help identify and siblings and possible descendants from them.

Hi,
Because Kenneth appears to have been an only child of Eliza and William Owens, your search for relatives will have to be from the latest available census and we need the parents's ages at marriage to find them and possible siblings.
Do you know when and where the parents died?
Because Eliza is shown as Lila on the entry for her marriage on the GRO Marriage Index Page, does Eliza appear on the marriage cert and Kenneth's birth cert?

Using the surnames you have given I think these are the marriages of Kenneth's grandparents. They are taken from
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk
James NIXON married Mary C COLLINS in 1890 at St Peter Woolton
William R OWEN married Mary J RICHARDSON in 1890 at St Peter Liverpool
Their children will be the uncles and aunts to Kenneth and their children his cousins.
1901 census Vale Rd Allerton (parish of All Hallows)
James Nixon H M 37 carter on farm born Delamere Cheshire
Mary wife 36
John Arthur son 10
James Ernest son 8
William son 4
Eliza Ann daughter 1
all born Woolton
also 2 lodgers in the house
1901 52 Cobden Road Much Woolton (parish of St Peter)
William R Owen H M 31 bricklayer's labourer
Mary Jane wife 29
Margaret daur 10
Charles son 7
Ellen daughter 5
William son 3
all born Woolton
You need to purchase some credits on the 1911 census to see these families on that census.
Then as you will have the names of Kenneth's uncles and aunts you need to track down their marriages - use
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and
www.freebmd.org.uk
Then look for their children's births - use ancestry and
www.freebmd.org.uk and possibly repeat looking for their marriages
Then armed with their names try the local paper, the electoral roll (you can buy credits to look at this)
Good luck

You might wish to know that Mary Jane and William Richard Owen are buried in St Peter's churchyard in Woolton. The inscription on the gravestone reads as follows:
In loving memory of a devoted wife and mother MARY JANE OWEN died 9th June 1957 aged 84 yrs.
Also WILLIAM RICHARD beloved husband of above died 9th November1968 aged 99 yrs.
Also REGIN ALD their son died 22nd March 1989 aged 80 yrs. And his beloved wife Winifred died 22nd June 1990 aged 81 yrs.
If the Nixons are buried in St Peter's in Woolton then there isn't a headstone.
The ages on the headstone put Mary Jane's birth in 1873 and William Richard's in 1869, with son Reginald being born 1909.

www.lancashirebmd.org.uk ALSO states Lila ...seems a little odd that BOTH sites state Lila
