Are we just looking for this family in Ireland or during time spent in Liverpool? If in Lierpool, could you give us some details of what you already have - ie any censuses or marriages for the siblings?

Not all of us have resources for Ireland although I'm sure some will help out if they are able.

One suggestion is to try www.rootschat.com that has a dedicated Ireland Board and also sub boards for each of the different areas, so if we are unable to help perhaps people on there might have local knowledge/resources.

Remember that both the 1901 and 1911 censuses for Ireland are free online http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

The Brodigan family

Hi Bernadine,
As MaryA suggested the 1901 Irish Census, the oldest one surviving, could be a starter for working backwards.

The county of Louth, where Drogheda is, produced 44 hits for Brodigan with only 37 for the rest of Ireland. Leave the age and forename blank and for gender click 'Both'. The results should come up in reasonably identifiable 'family' groupings based on townlands.

Also, it would be worth registering with http://www.rootsireland.ie/ the site of the Irish Family History Foundation. Many church records for County Louth are online there. I did a quick search for Brodigan births/baptisms 1800 to 1840 and got 109 hits. Marriages in the same period gave 50 hits.

While it is free to register and search, the site charges 5 Euro [abt £4.25] to see the content of a particular record.

Hi Bernadine,
RE:
Mary Brodigan she married a Llewellyn Turner
There are only 2 Mary Brodigan marriages in England and Wales between 1860 and 1900.
1) Marriages Sep 1881 - Hull - 9d - 390: BERG, Carl & BRODIGAN , Mary Jane.
2) Marriages Dec 1896 - Wrexham - 11b - 520. Brodigan, Mary to either Hughes, Thomas or Thomas, William.

Can't find a Turner/Brodigan marriage. There's only one Llewellyn Turner marriage 1860 to 1910..
Marriages Dec 1904 - Lancaster - 8e - 1296: Turner, Llewellyn to either Atkinson, Emily Ellen or Banton, Lily.

If you have found any family in an England/Wales census can you post the census page references here?

Hi,
Unfortunately we don't have a YoB for Mary so don't know if this is her. No parents given. You would have to order a photocopy of the Register entry. Quite a bit cheaper than a copy of the actual cert but has all the same information; parents' names, occupations, home address, etc. Costs about 6 Euro [abt £5.00]. It's a good deal compared to the Southport GRO charge of £9.25!

Found on www.familysearch.org
BIRTH: Mary Brodigan
Registration district: Drogheda; Registration quarter and year: 1864
film number: 101041
volume number: 7; page number: 533.
digital folder number: 4187281
image number: 00032

The quarter is probably December because Civil Records didn't start in Ireland until after September 1864. But because a qtr isn't given in the records I wouldn't 'guess' it in your application. Order the cert online here: http://www.groireland.ie/

Had a browse for her parents and found this. Might be her mother but a bit old for the 1864 birth, so perhaps a g.mother?
Death: Apr - Jun 1883 — Drogheda
Record title: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958

Estimated birth year: 1793

Hi Katie,
Oh woe is me! Sorry. I should have thought to check on the old version. I was too engrossed in getting my post done during one of the few occasions this week that my connection has worked for more than 5 minutes!
