My grandfather was Ernest Cook (b1884) gt grandfather was Aquila Cook (b1853) and gt gt grandfather was Robert Cook (b1824) - would appreciate any help for gt gt gt granfather who I think was also a Robert.
Aquila was supposed to have been a well known faith healer in the area but have no idea if this is true and wondered if anyone has any info on this. Thanks in anticipation

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You will be able to get Aquila's birth certificate online from www.gro.gov.uk using the following references
Q1 1853 Warrington 8c 119

This will give you his mother's maiden name which will take you one step further as it will enable you to find his parents marriage, which should have taken place after 1837 if your dates of birth are correct. So with that certificate you would get Robert's father's name and occupation.

Hello and welcome aboard :)
I always envy people who have unusual names in their family tree!!
Hopefully one of our members will help with the faith healer connection, perhaps something from old newspapers?
Hi Mary :D
In 1861 Grappenhall
Robt & his wife Margaret, their eldest is 8yr old Aquilla.
There's an Elizabeth Chadwick with them listed as Mother.
Marriage in Warrington 1849 dec qtr vol 20 p 8
Margt Chadwick to Robert Cook from Free BMD
So perhaps the marriage cert is the way to go to find out more about Robert snr Cook.??

I did check and found nothing in the newspapers that are available online, I think you would need to see what local ones are held at Warrington Library. I notice that if you are a member of Warrington Library http://www.warrington.gov.uk/home/leisu ... reference/ there are "over 170 national, regional and local newspapers" available online as part of their reference library.
