Gore's Directory 1911

Does anyone know if the information in Gore's 1911 Directory was recorded before or after the 1911 Census? I have my Patrick Holland at 9 Sand Street on the 1911 Census and there is a Patrick Holland that could be him too on the Gore's Directory at 18 Dublin Street. Unfortunately Sand Street was missed off the Directory so I can't check there for him. I did a check on the people in Dublin Street in the Directory and a good number of them were not in Dublin Street on the Census.

Hi Blue,
As far as I am aware, street directories such as Gore's were usually compiled during the year prior to publication. So the Gore's published in 1911 would have been prepared during 1910.

If it helps re your Patrick in Sand Street in the 1911, the address in Dublin Street where you found a PH in Gore's is occupied the following April by a 20 yr old Catherine Whitty [nee Fitzgerald] who had married James Whitty September qtr 1910.

Great minds and all that?

Thanks DS,

I thought it would be in that order. There's another Patrick Holland head of household on the Census in 1911 but he is living in Great Richmond Street probably too far away from Dublin Street to have been living there in 1910.

Hi Blue

In 1914 there is no Patrick Holland mentioned.
Sand Street also isn't listed, where was it? It may be between other streets and squeezed in their listings.

At 18 Dublin St is Thomas Barrett a labourer.

Hi Erika

Sand Street was off Carlton Street which is off Great Howard Street. I think now that the other Patrick Holland who was living at 43 Great Richmond Street on the Census may well be the one at 18 Dublin Street on the Directory taken in 1910. The Patrick Holland at 18 Dublin Street could have moved between the time of the Directory and the Census to 43 Great Richmond Street. This other Patrick Holland looking at the birthplaces of his children had only recently arrived in Liverpool so may have settled in Dublin Street before moving on from there.

Hi Blue

Checked again and Sand Street is named as off Carlton Street, but doesn't name any residents :(
Also in Gt Richmond St, No.43 isn't listed, nothing between 33 & 45.

Sorry not much help.

Cheers

I've just received a birth certificate with the address 18 Dublin Street on it so the directory entry in Gore's 1911 is my Patrick Holland.

Where can we search the Gore's 1911 directory? Is it available online?

A number of our forum members have copies of directories which they will check for you if you ask them nicely

This is a list of what we hold between us, perhaps start up a new post with your request that Erika, Jan, Colette or Doreen will see.

Hi Tina

Anc***** have Gore's 1911 Directory for Liverpool & Suburbs. I got the image from there for Patrick Holland at Dublin Street using credits a while back. I have a FMP subscription for my family history research. Our local library has Anc***** available free so I've been able to look at this directory again more thoroughly at the library.

Blue

Using the Card Catalogue I have searched for keywords of 1911, Liverpool, Suburbs, Gore* etc. and can't find it. It will be a very useful item to be able to access so Blue when you next use the Ancestry World at the Library, could you please post the link to the page here for us.

This page lists the directories available on the right hand side. Scroll down to 1911 for Gore's:-
