Consulting burial records - advice needed please ...

I discovered that my 3 x gr-grandmother who died in 1868 is buried in Anfield Cemetery, along with her infant grand-daughter who died in 1881.
I know the section is c/e 1 and the grave number is 1003. I also know that it was a 'half purchased grave' ie: it is shared with members of another family.
I emailed Cemeteries and Crematoria Services to ask whether they could tell me who else was buried there, and whether or not there's a headstone. After a couple of bizarre replies (in which they accused me of using 'profane language' ...?) they eventually revealed that there are 7 people buried in the same plot. I was given an interment number for each person, but not their names.
Sorry if this seems to be a very naive question, but I've never accessed the burial records before! Please can someone tell me how I can find out the names of the deceased? ie: Am I correct in assuming that the burial records are listed numerically? (rather than being listed by name).
The numbers vary widely: 10511, 11252, 48966, 77424, 105220, 106397 and 141776. I know one of these numbers relates to 1868 and one relates to 1881, but I have no idea what the other years will be ... are the records indexed by year?
Also, do I need to apply in advance to the R.O to view the burial records?
[NB: I'm taking the 'profane language' accusation further, as a formal complaint!]
