Leighs of Cuerdley

My GGGrandfather James Leigh is shown in the 1841 census age 45 living in Cuerdley. Also in the village which was and is quite small is another James Leigh age abt 70 I would like to think they are Father and son but according to Sankey Chapel records the parents of the younger James were James and Alice Leigh. While the elder James is shown in the census as married to a Betsy/Eizabeth. This could be a second marriage but the record shows Alice's death in 1807 while James looks to have married Betsy in 1805. If true this would certainly have set the tongues wagging in the village. Has anyone any idea how to reconcile, this or tell me were I have gone wrong.

have you noticed in lancashire parish registers that there is a james leigh baptised at st wilfreds(farnworth) church on 9/10/1785 son of james and margaret leigh of cuerdley. Also james leigh baptised 14/1/1827 at st wilfreds son of James and catherine of cuerdley(this couple are on the 1841 census and the son seems to be living at a different address in the village.Might be worth checking farnworth church records and cemetery.
