Hello Ian and welcome to the forum.
The only way you can get information about a death is to order the Death Certificate. You can do this online from the GRO at a cost of £9.25 incl. post. Takes 5 to 7 days.
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... efault.asp
You will need the Death Index references:
William H. Givan - aged 82 - Liverpool North - June qtr 1952 - Volume 10D - Page 289.
Edith M. Givan - aged 74 - Liverpool North - June qtr 1952 - Volume 10D - Page 343.

Thanks for the replies blue and dickiesam
would there be anything in the newspapers of the time,I was thinking with them dieing so close to each other and Mr Givan been a "old contemptible" there could be a report.
Does liverpools main library hold copies?

Ian, I strongly suggest you get copies of the two death certs before going further. The certs will tell you where the deaths took place, at home or in hospital etc, and the given cause of death may either satisfy your interest or actually provide further clues, in that an inquest may have been hold.

At the date you are interested in you won't find anything online, but as Katie says you would need to check the newspapers at the Record Office.
I can certainly put you in touch with a researcher who would find any entries for you, if there were any to find, but I agree with Dickiesam, you need the death certificates first, the causes of death might suggest to you whether there would have been any need for an entry in the newspaper, apart of course, from an obituary.
