Amongst my late Mother's keepsakes are two medals awarded for sporting acheivements, and I was wondering whether any forum members could shed any light on the history of these.

I'd really like to know which family member won them as nowadays we're mainly a family of couch potatoes! (Both of my grandfathers were born in 1896, so the medals are unlikely to have belonged to either of them).

Firstly there's a (hallmarked) gold disc which bears a coat of arms. Around the edge are the words: Liverpool & District Football League Div II. The reverse side is engraved with: 1910-11 Blundellsands F.C R.J.P. The disc has been attached to a gold chain (watch fob).

The second medal is (hallmarked) silver. The centre is shield-shaped with 'art nouveau' swirls around it. The shield has been engraved with initials at some point, but the lettering is so worn that I can't decifer what the initials are. The reverse is engraved with: Blundellsands BC Walk 1-7-1903.

I've had a quick google but without success.

Try Local History at Crosby Library they may be able to help you. They certainly have the local paper on film and other things as well.
