Home for Destitute Children Kirkdale Liverpool
Does anyone know if the Home for Destitute Children at 19 & 21 Woodhouse Street Kirkdale Liverpool was still in existence after 1906? Miss Mary Hornby was the Superintendent.
Searching on the free index to the 1911 census on www.findmypast.co.uk shows 19 & 21 bracketed together for the same schedule which implies they were some kind of institution.

Hi,
Found the address in the 1901 Census and it was indeed as described in your post, with Agnes M Allen [bn abt 1867, Lincolnshire] as Matron and her sister Fanny E Allen [bn abt 1868, Lincolshire] as private secretary. There are 8 children between the ages of 4 and 15 classified as a Ward and all but 3 are bn Liverpool. The 3 exceptions are bn London, 2 of whom seem to be sisters. RG12 / 3465 / 79 / 23.
Ten years later, it appears to be a small private school and Agnes has been replaced by Fanny as Matron. No sign of Agnes anywhere. A PM is on its way.

I know your post was a long time ago but did you find out anything about this home in Woodhouse Street, other than what is in the 1901 and 1911 censuses? The two Hathway girls from Middlesex were relations of mine. They were two of a family of nine children orphaned in 1899 who were split up and spread all over England. Have you a photo of the home or street?
Many thanks
Stephen
