A few more clues are needed, eg her age at marriage, or possibly at death, and if you know where she was born.

The easiest way, which will also give you her father's name, which will be necessary to continue further back, is to obtain the marriage certificate either from the Liverpool Register Office at a cost of £9 http://www.liverpool.gov.uk/registrars_ ... der=liquid or the GRO www.gro.gov.uk at a cost of £9.25 using the reference Q1 1934 West Derby 8b 475. Alternatively if you can get to the Record Office in Liverpool you chould check the register for St Saviours Church, Everton which should be give you the information for free.

Hi Bernie

As Mary said you need more information like Elsie's age and her father's name from the marriage certificate to identify her birth record. If she was born pre-1911 you could then find her with her father on the census. There are a few possible candidates but you need more information to find the right one:-

Apr/May/Jun 1905 Matthews Elsie May West Derby 8b 697

Oct/Nov/Dec 1905 Matthews Elsie Maud West Derby 8b 553

Apr/May/Jun 1907 Matthews Elsie West Derby 8b 499

Jul/Aug/Sep 1916 Matthews Elsie West Derby 8b 982 (Mother's maiden name: Gleadhill)

This one looks the best candidate to me:-

Apr/May/Jun 1907 Matthews Elsie West Derby 8b 499

The marriage you referred to was at St Saviours Everton in 1934. This candidate was living at Hunt Street not far from this church as a child. Am I right in saying your William James Reece used to live off Scotland Road?

Seems to be the right match but you would only know for certain by getting the marriage certificate and comparing it to this Elsie and her family on the 1911 Census.
