Hi Bernie
You can look in the census without paying to find Alice.
If you know her parents & sibs, you can also look them up.
For their addresses, occupation etc, you will have to pay as Dickiesam
has already mentioned.
Cheers me dear
Tina

There are somewhere on this site, a few hints to discovering how to find the names of everybody living in the same household when using the free index. Using one of these tips - ie entering part of the Reference (RD455) and Alice Gribbin's name in the "Other Members of the Household" I was able to produce a list of people who I believe live in the same house. If judging by these names you consider them to be your family then it will be worth your while paying for the image.
Surname GRIBBIN - Eliza 33, John 33, Meirie 5, Robenia 2
Surname WILLIAMS - Ann 46, William 51, William Edward 26
Surname CLARKE - Elizabeth 67

john gribbins b. ross. ireland
I used the Swedish Steam Method [similar to taking stamps off envelopes!]... for Ross read Rosscommon aka Roscommon!

Hi tina.
Wrong one after all that my sister got it wrong but she did say that my gran
catherine 1885 did have a brother james bernard 1883.
I had his RN record and he had two tattoos one said gertie the other said ally. Gertie may be the wife and (ally) alice could be his daughter.
regards bernie.

Hi Bernie,
I recall a discussion about what those tattoos stood for.
Can you tell us about the Alice Gribbin you are looking for? Who is she? Who were her parents? Where [in what census] have you found the parents and other family?
There were only 5 registrations of an Alice/Alison [etc] Gribbin/Gribbon/etc birth in Lancashire between 1901 and 1920:
GRIBBIN, Alice - Wigan - 1902;
GRIBBIN, Alice - West Derby - 1904;
GRIBBIN, Alice Ann - Wigan - 1906.
GRIBBIN, Alice - Blackburn - 1912.
GRIBBON, Alice - Prestwich - 1911.

Hi Bernie
do you want to take it from the top again.
The Alice you were looking for could be any Alice its just a name your Grandmothers brother had tattooed on his arm along with Gerty YES ????? he was a sailor so a girl in every port as they say.
He didnt marry till 1913 name Mary Mohoney.. you say you have his Navy record so when did he join up.. these tattooed names could be women he met before he married Mary.
I am wondering what happened to him and Mary i dont see any children for them and i dont see him listed in 1938 Lpool Directory.. did they move away.
Also his brother Joseph E who married Elizabeth Bulger 1914 one child Mary C born 1915, what happened to him ??
xx

Hello
My sister told me that are dad would refer saying (are ally) so i am assuming there is a alice in the family.
At first my sister said it was grans sister then i said it may be sister-inlaw.
There was two brothers james b and joseph e .
Or it could be a cousin thats all i know .
this family is doing my head-in.
regards bernie
Ally who?

Hi Bernie,
I am thinking sideways here... I wouldn't automatically assume Ally is for a girl. Might even be for his ship.
These are all the Al* Gribbin [with variations] births in England and Wales between 1901 and 1920:
GRIBBIN, Alice - Wigan - 1902.
GRIBBIN, Albert Augustine C - Liverpool - 1903.
GRIBBEN, Alexander - Manchester - 1903.
GRIBBEN, Alice Cylvia - Truro, Cornwall - 1903.
GRIBBIN, Alice - West Derby - 1904.
GRIBBIN, Alexander - West Derby - 1905.
GRIBBIN, Alice Ann - Wigan - 1906.
GRIBBON, Albert - Prestwich, Lancs - 1906.
GRIBBON, Alice - Auckland, Durham - 1910.
GRIBBON, Alice - Prestwich, Lancs - 1911.
GRIBBIN, Alice - Blackburn, Lancs - 1912.
GRIBBENS, Albert - Hexham, Northumberland - 1916.
GRIBBEN, Alfred - Chorlton, Lancs - 1918.

Hi Bernie
You say your sister said that your father used to refer to Our Ally.. that would suggest she was close to him meaning a family member.
How many siblings did your dad have ???
Infact take it from the top..fill us in with all the details you have..
I have a Barney(Bernard) & Ellen where they your Great Great Grandparents ? then a James & Catherine where they your Great Grandparents ? who had James Bernard, Catherine, Joseph E, Mary J & Elizabeth..
Was Catherine or Elizabeth your Grandmother ???? if so i take it she didnt know what happened to James Bernard, thats why i asked could he have moved away..
You also say he was in the Navy.. and have some records of his service what year do the records go up to..

Hiya
Cross St Bootle.. Bernie when James Bernard Gribbin married Mary Mahoney what was his address.
James Gribbin & Catherine Redmond your Great Grandparents married 1881
children
James B 1882
Catherine 1883
Joseph E 1885
Mary f 1891
Elizabeth 1896
Catherine married William Reece your Grandparents
Joseph E married Elizabeth Bulger 1914 one daughter Mary C B 1915 died 1919..
Mary Francis married William Beagan 1911 they had 8 children.. doesnt any of that side of the family know what happened to James Bernard.
Cant see Mary around 1911 but see Wiliam Beagan living in Lemon St Kirkdale.
saying that can't see Joseph E or James Bernard.. odd really.
