Hi,
What is it you are looking for precisely? News of a sinking and/or the circumstances? Or loss of life in general or the death of a specific person? Is it a national or local paper you are thinking of?
There's a tremendous amount of WW1 MN information already on the web and we can help point you in the right direction if we know what you are looking for.

I am looking for any newspaper information on the sinking of the British Merchant Ship S.S.Barrister: Thos. & Jas. Harrison Line ex- Saint Hugo, 1916 4,952 tons.
I have seen the information on the web already there, about the wherabouts it was torpedeod but was kind of hoping it might have been reported in the local press .

The name of the Merchant Seaman lost on this ship is Fireman Thomas Jones

There are so many papers at Liverpool to look in
The Liverpool Evening Express
Liverpool Echo
Liverpool Courier
and others. There may be no mention of the ship because of secrecy it may just be referred to as a Merchant ship was sunk off the Isle of Man 19th September 1918. What I would do is look for a obituary for him in the papers

This has been discussed earlier this year on the Great War Forum, where lists of the victims were supplied, so there is probably no need for our members here to keep looking for those.
Taj was looking on the GWF for accounts of a particular incident which have not been mentioned in this thread. Why not spell it out here?

Re: S.S.Barrister: Thos. & Jas. Harrison Line ex- Saint Hugo, 1916, 4,952 tons.
From: British Merchant Ships sunk by U-boats in the 1914-18 War by A. J. Tennent:
19/09/1918 - Torpedoed and sunk in the Irish Sea 9 miles W.1/2N. from Chicken Rock Lighthouse, S.W. of the Isle of Man by the German submarine UB-64 whilst on a voyage from Glasgow and Liverpool to West Indies with general cargo and mails. 30 lost.
There's a crew list here, including Thomas Jones, about a 1/3rd of the way down the forum page:

Map and info about the site of the wreck:

There was more than one SS Barrister, both owned by T&J Harrison. But there was no loss of life when the earlier one was torpedoed in 1917.

Thank you for the additional information Dickiesam, it helps enormously to have all the facts presented instead of part.

Oh dear ! I'm sorry I asked Mary .
My original question was (I repeat ) Which Newspaper do you think would have information regarding WW1 losses of the merchant navy during WW1.
I never asked for information on crew list ,crew members ( This has been discussed earlier this year on the Great War Forum, where lists of the victims were supplied, so there is probably no need for our members here to keep looking for those.
Taj was looking on the GWF for accounts of a particular incident which have not been mentioned in this thread. Why not spell it out here?
So thanks to Kathy for answering my original question. The Liverpool Evening Express
Liverpool Echo
Liverpool Courier
and others.
Next year I will think twice about posting on here.

Our crew make every attempt to help wherever they can, not only with the direct question, and they certainly would have tried other avenues had they not known that research had already been done.

Hi taj1
We are a bit over zealous here in the scouse forum because we are so used to people posting with only half the facts!!
That's why we all chip in to fill in the blanks which you don't need.
Forgive us..
Warmies from downunder for the festive season.
