hello i am new on here, i wonder does your information include anything about a stephen Lee a miner who joined up early on and was in till the bitter end?
my Dad said his Dad (stephen) was injured & probably gassed too but did survive to come home, he said he was told Stephen was on the somme.
i am also trying to trace my Grandmothers 2 brothers who both died in WW1 but they are not from this area, probably manchester way
Frank Davenport & joseph (?) Davenport, Nana always said they died at either end of the war i think frank at the end.
thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.
It would be a good idea if you could check the
Commonwealth War Grave site where you might be able to identify Joseph and Frank - there is a possible Joseph who was a Lance Corporal in the Manchester Regiment and who died 08/03/1916 age 33, commemorated on the BASRA Memorial. He was Son of Joseph and Eliza Davenport, of 14, Crummuck St., Hightown, Manchester; husband of Eliza Ann Davenport. If you were able to confirm that this was your relative then his Service Number was 4848 and we may be able to find out more details online.
I thought that there should have been Pension or Medal Records for Stephen Lee, unfortunately nothing is showing up on Ancestry, can you check if he had another name?

thanks,
as far as i know stephen was his only first name, he joined up in 1 of the pals regiments in sthelens in early 1914 his commander was lord kitchenner
(my dad was born march 1915 - a going away present! & named for said lord K)
he worked as a miner, i believe a coal face miner as he was a small man, his original religion was one of the protestant type most likely a baptist or methodist, his family was of welsh or scots origin or maybe both, my dad never knew, i think he had other siblings but the family fell out big time when stephen married and verbal accounts were not passed on.
i found a census record from 1911 for a stephen lee married to a catherine? & individuals marriage reccords (on-line) for the same names on the same day in the same place, i.e a stephen lee married....
& a catherine phair married...... & so i guess thats them! march 1906 prescot if the record is right then his DOB is in 1883.
thanks bye
