Hi all

Need help with a man named E CALVERLEY occupation Shunter on Railways GWR Birkenhead or could be morpeth dock.

He was commended by the king for his actions during the Blitz at the yard on 21 december 1940 along with three colleagues, H Philpott, E Irwin and C POte.
POte was awarded the george medal.

He is to be honoured with a plaque by Merseyrail along with his collegues.. their families have been traced and will attend the ceremony.

But all we have to go in E CALVERLEY and his occupation a Shunter.

I have found an Edward born West Derby 1904, around 1911ish he is living at Peter Road Walton with a sister says she is born 1878 Margaret Murphy big age gap she is married 3 years no hubby at home

marriage Margaret I Calverley to Francis Murphy 1907 St Marys Kirkdale

Gone back to 1891 & 1901

Walton Vale

William Calverley 1843 Kettering Yorks
Mary Ann 1841 St Helens
Amy Beatrice b 1876 Liverpool
Margaret I b 1878 Liverpool
Florence Gertrude b 1881 Liverpool

How can Edward be Margarets brother  the parents were way too old in 1901 to have a baby.

also Amy & Florence both marry Amy in 1903 and Florence in 1925 unless Florence is Edwards mother.

Any help appreciated

Also theres a new batch of records on Ancestry honours medals can anyone check if E Calverley is listed...

cheers xx

Hi
there were a few children born to Francis Murphy & Margaret Calverley.

Florence did not marry till 1925 can't find any children for her..

And sister Amy Beatrice either married William Lawson or Arthur William Reader in 1903.

Problem i have is i dont even know if he was an Edward all i have is initial E, and i also think he is proberbly the son of Margaret or sister Florence before they married.

Florence working in Bootle as Drapers Assistant around 1912.

My sister in law asked for help last year with another man and i solved that one.. this ones realy frustrating..

With this Edward living in Peter Road Walton its very close to Kirkdale Station were alot of Railwaymen lived back then, i know the area well and my own dad was on the Railways not till the the early 60s though.

Gonna check 1938 for Francis Murphy ..

xx

Hi,
Just to confirm Barbara B's post [she beat me to it!]... when Amy had been married for 7 years her spouse was Arthur Reader, of 4 Mindale Road, Wavertree. From the 1901 Arthur was bn abt 1879 and was a plumber.

From FreeBMD there were no children from this marriage.

And re: Births Jun 1904> Calverley, Edward - W. Derby - 8b - 698.... sent you a PM.
