mclean/mckenna roundabout or merrygoround?

Post by dickiesam »

Hi Alex and welcome.
Don't forget there may not have been a marriage; a not unusual occurrence! Can you post a census page reference where you have Alexander and Ellen together as 'man and wife'? I can only find Ellen as a widow in 1891 with two children James [8] and Alexander [5]. RG12 - 2928 - 68 - 27.

I found Alexander's death: Mar 1891: McLean, Alexander - 48 - W. Derby - 8b - 498. Does the death cert show his occupation?

I assume you know Ellen's maiden name from the birth cert of one of the children? What was Alexander's occupation on that cert and was it the same on their other child's birth cert?

I see from the 1901 that Ellen had married again.. RG13 - 3436 - 37 - 17.
Marriages Sep 1894: Donnelly, Matthew to McLean, Ellen - Toxteth Park - 8b - 471.

They are quite an age to be having their first child in 1883, I'm thinking perhaps of a previous marriage, maybe even a current marriage preventing them making it official.

Have you obtained the marriage certificate for Ellen and Matthew Donnelly and what is her father's name?
