Thomas Fox - cabinet maker

I have marriage certificate for Martha Fox May 28 1849 St Philips Church Liverpool to John Affleck. Her father was Thomas Fox - on certificate listed as Cabinet Maker. I know from the 1851/61 census that Martha was born in Dewsbury, Yorks and assume the family had moved to Liverpool pre 1849. However, I cannot trace Thomas in any of the censuses. Martha's address on the marriage was Oxford St - is there a way of checking out the address which may lead me to Thomas, cabinet maker?

From familysearch have birth of Martha to Thomas & Sarah. However, have since found 3 marriages Thomas to Sarah - all with different surnames!

Martha & John had both died by 1869.

Any help on this one much appreciated
Many thanks
Barbara

The entry for Martha on family search is an inputted record from a member of the LDS church. It may or may not be correct. The same applies for the 3 marriages of Thomas Fox to Sarah.

It is possible to search the census by address but a number is need as well or someone who has a full set of Lancashire discs may be prespared to search the street for you.

Because I can't find Thomas Fox - cabinet maker - in 1851 or 1841, I suspect he may have died before 1841. Taking Martha's YoB in 1851 as being reasonably accurate I found this entry in 1841.

RG number: HO107 Piece: 1267 Book/Folio: 3/44 Page: 11.
NEWSOME, Joseph - 75 - 1766 - Yorkshire.
FOX, Frances - 55 - 1786 - Yorkshire.
FOX, Martha - 15 - 1826 - Yorkshire.
FOX, Elizabeth - 5 - 1836 - Yorkshire.
FRANCE, John - 12 - 1829 - Yorkshire.
Address: Chapel Fold, Batley, Yorkshire.
Registration District: Dewsbury.

Frances Fox appears to be a widow and Joseph Newsome could be her father? Just a thought!

Hi there

Martha's birth year in 1851 was c 1825 and in 1861 c1822 then her death 1869 aged 40 makes her born c 1829, i would go with the age at death 40.

I am leaning towards this family

1841 Pismire Hill Dewsbury

Betty Fox born 1771
Ann Fox b 1821

further down the road we have

Sarah Fox aged 40
John age 15
Thomas age 15
Martha age 10 age would be rounded of in 1841 so could be 11
Rebecca age 10
Eliza age 5
Joseph age 4
Benjamin age 1

Back to Betty Fox looks like her husband was a Joseph Fox married Dewsbury 1791

possible children
John 1792
Hannah 1794
Thomas 1796
Benjamin 1799
Sarah 1802
William 1804
Mary 1806
John 1808 first one may have died..

Thomas born 1796 would be a good match for the Sarah on the 1841 born c 1800 and the childrens names John, Thomas, Joseph & Benjamin are repeated..
This Sarah looks like shes a widow... Betty would be her mother in Law living right by her..The Ann living in Betty's house could be a Grandaughter from one of her other sons.. By 1851 i can see at Pismire Hill a Sarah Fox aged 54 a daughter whos name i cannot read whos age could be 18 or 13 sons Joseph 14 anf Benjamin 11

( NEED SOMEONE ELSE TO LOOK AT THIS CENSUS IMAGE) its not daughter Rebecca she is a servant in 1851.

living with Betty in 1851 is Grandaughter Elizabeth aged 14 Sarah had a daughter named Eliza who was 5 in 1841, also up the road is Benjamin Fox born c 1802..possibly Betty's son.

Still cannot be 100% sure this is the right family but a good bet

xx

Hi Col,
Re Sarah in 1851.. that child's name is Eliza.

FOX, Sarah - Head - Widow - 54 - Winder - Dewsbury, Yorkshire.
FOX, Eliza - Dtr - U/m - 18 - Winder - Dewsbury, Yorkshire.
FOX, Joseph - Son - U/m - 14 - Carpet Weaver - Dewsbury, Yorkshire.
FOX, Benjamin - Son - U/m - 11 - Carpet Winder - Dewsbury, Yorkshire.
CARR, Ann - Lodger - U/m - 45 - Winder - Dewsbury, Yorkshire.
HO107 Piece:2324 Folio:481 Page:34

I think the lodger, Ann Carr, may well be related to the next-door neighbours of Sarah, William and Ann Carr?
