How do we find out who lived at certain addresses? Is there a certain website to look on?

Also, the phone books for liverpool on ancestry really confuse me!!!

Thanks doedoe,

Bit of a mystery, as Leta Street, Walton ,was there in 1891 census (different line of enquiry), and No.20 and 22 were addresses given on a marriage certificate 16th December 1939 !!

Leta Street is still there now, parallel to Gwladys Street near Everton's ground.

Unfortunately the reason that there may be no listing may be because the residents weren't trades people.

On Ancestry if you wanted to check the Telephone Books - go to the Card Catalogue and enter "Telephone" in the keyword box and the database will show you British Phone Books 1880 - 1984.

Again, choose England, County Lancashire and "Leta" in the street address box. Then you will need to enter a surname - I tried with Jones and the search did indeed work although the Leta Street that it found entries for was in Birkenhead, directories for the years 1959 and 1960.

There is a possibility that there could be an entry in the telephone book for C1938, but I would have though it unlikely for a residence to have a telephone then.

Mary,

Thanks for that, I didn't know exactly where Leta Street was - it now makes sense, because after the marriage in 1939, the couple in question lived Bardsey Rd/St., which is very near Everton's ground !

I need to check the electoral rolls next.
