Hi all,
As many will know there is a memorial to those who died at sea at the Pier Head - just to the left.
One of the names on this has always intrigued me. Now that I have plenty of time I'd like to find out more. How possible and how difficult would this be?
Many thanks
Tracing names on Seaman's memorial at Pier Head
The name was Mustafa Bin Mat. (I remember the name from my childhood - but I now wish to see what I can found out about this perosn and others) Here is what I have found so far.
Well on the following site

I have found further information. The seaman concerned was Mutafa Bin Mat, a deck serang, on HMS Relau.
HMS Relau was one of the last ships to leave Singapore after the Japanese invasion

I am also intrigued by the following memorial to Chinese
“To the many Chinese seamen who after both World Wars were required to leave.
For their wives and partners who were left in ignorance of what happened to their men. For the children who never knew their fathers”
