Grand father's name not on my father's birth certificate

There is no father's name on my Dad's birth certificate. He was born in 1939. Is there anyway locating details or has my grandmother taken the name of his father to her grave?

Many thanks
Trisha

I don't think there's any way of proving who was the father.

I would have to agree with that, unless your father entered a name on his marriage certificate, perhaps he knew something.

Hi Trisha :D
Do you have any idea where the family held their baptisms?
There could be a record for your Dad.
Did he marry in church?
Does the birth certificate have a blank or say "father unknown"?
Good luck!

At the Record Office there are Affiliation records, where the reputed father was made to pay for the upkeep of the child. The reference is 347 MAG. Its always worthwhile consulting these records as they give the name of the father. They will only be available at Sandhills when the new Archives section is available.
