On a death certificate...

... does anyone know what the letters u.s.d mean in the date of death column of a death certificate? I have it on a few certificates now...

The only thing I can think of is Urban Sanitory District. Perhaps Glenys from Leigh can enlighten

If you Google Urban Sanitory Distrct there is information on it

Yes, U.S.D. in the date/address column does mean Urban Sanitory District - the early kind of local authority. I think there one RD - rural district and and then they became Urban District Councils. Its just indicating the local authority area.
