ORPHANAGES WOOLTON

I have been told that my father and his siblings where, in about 1915, in an orphanage in Woolton. I am told the orphanage was demolished 20 years ago. Does anyone know which orphanage it was and if there are any records.

One of the children, when they left the orphanage, was given work in the Racquet Club and lived in. One of the girls trained to be a nurse. Another girl went to Canada to work for a family.

Any help appreciated.

Hi,
There used to be a Police Orphanage on Speke Road in Woolton. It became the Marie Curie Hospice, Sunnybank. The original building was demolished in the 80's (I think) and replaced by the existing building.

These Records wont be available till October and they do have restrictions on them 100 year closure. You will have to e.mail roger.hull [at] liverpool.gov.uk. He will be able to advise you on how to get the information you want. There will be a fee

email address amended to prevent spamming change the [at] to @ to use. MA.

Kate, I am confused. Are you referring to the Church England orphanage Pegasus gave me the link to. I think this is the correct orphanage as the daughter of my Uncle recalls it and they were C of E. Do I have to contact R. Hull to access this orphange? Please confirm.

Yes I am referring to the orphanage Pegasus said. Because the records contains sensitive information about children they are closed for 100 years, however the research officer Roger Hull can access the information you are looking for but there will be a charge if you e.mail him he will advise you on whatthe procedure is.
