Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
Bertie, May Worthington is a bit of an annoying scratch really!
We have Anne Worthington (nee Powell) born to William Powell/Mary Austin. I have added Mr Skinley to our tree.
Arthur Worthington was Annie's first husband and May's father.

Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
With Annie Worthington (nee Powell) remarried as Annie Skinley, she cannot be the Annie Worthington who died in June 1941 in Manchester! A wrong suggestion from Ancestry!
Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
It appears that 28 Abbey Street was kept in the family for a period of time.

Re: MayWorthington
We are trying to unravel the life of a woman who left her son Charles Smith but remained in the same city as him without ever seeing him again. Having said that, thanks to this group we are uncovering her mystery. My wife wants to know what happened to her father's mother, as it troubled him all his life as to why she had abandoned him.
Your help is amazing!

Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
I can see her residing at 28 Abbey Street in 1945 but can't find 1948? She is gone from there in 1950 although Robert Skinley remains. (There is no sign of husband George - if he was serving in the forces, he would still appear on the electoral roll or would he?)
Now found her in 1955 and 1960 at 25 Heliers Road, Liverpool with her a George who is showing as George Alfred Bell (Alfred is not shown on son George's birth certificate and the husband has no mention of Alfred either).

Re: MayWorthington
Morning Bertie
I think we are going wrong again. "Our" May was born on 4th August 1911 so the Bells at 25 Heliers Road can't be them. (Why are there so many George & May Bells!) George Bell was born around 1912.
When I look at the 1939 Register I can't even see these people - 25 Heliers Road shows up as being occupied by Robert & Elsie McFadyen? I am confused? There are three additional people listed as "Closed" whom I cannot see. So how can you see them but I can't (if they are the Bells)?
Thanks for all your help

Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
Bill,
I was pointing out who the family at 25 Heliers Rd were, not thinking it was our May Bell.
I can't see anymore than you can, wish I could

Bertie, thanks for that!
Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
I thought I'd research the address, 22 Wycliffe Rd, anything found might come in handy while still looking for George & May, name connections etc.
In the 1950 E/R, Mary Elizabeth Skinley appears, she was born, Mary Elizabeth Warnick, 1914, mothers maiden name, Warnick.
She went on to marry, Gordon Skinley, 1936. She later became George Bell's step sister.
George Bell's father John Bell, 22 Wycliffe Rd (marriage cert). The 39 reg for 22 Wycliffe Rd has John Bell, 21 August 1887, Plumber,
Mary E Bell,10 May 1888, Mabel Bell, 1923. Mabel Bell was later killed in an air raid, 22Wycliffe Rd, 1940.
There's a baptism for a John Thomas Henry Bell, born, 21 August 1887, parents Thomas & Ellen Bell. Thomas Bell was a Plumber.
In 1906, St Timothy's Liverpool,
John Thomas Henry Bell married Elizabeth Ritchie.
Registration for, George Bell, June Qtr, 1911, West Derby, Mother's maiden name, Ritchie.
West Derby, 1919, John Bell married Mary E Warnick
1928/29 aged 14 Mary Elizabeth Warnick shows on the Canadian passenger lists leaving Liverpool, address of Relative, Mrs Mary Bell, 22 Wycliffe Rd Liverpool.
Gordon Skinley and Mary Elizabeth Warnick went on to have a child, May Skinley who oddly enough married a Frank Smith.
Unfortunately I can't find George Bell's exact date of birth in 1911.

Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
Interesting revelations......
I have just been checking and updating my records for this. It makes amazing reading.
Mabel Bell is listed on the CWG site with a memorial.
I had to think hard about how May's husband George fitted with his half sister and her mother (who I had thought had been his mother but who wasn't!).
I wonder why Mary E Warnick went to Canada in 1928/9 and then came back again?
The hunt continues.....not helped by what appears to be a second "George & May Bell" (George Alfred Bell) in the mix in the 1950s!

Re: MayWorthington (Born 6th May 1908)
Bill,
Mary Elizabeth sailed to Canada from Liverpool, June 22, 1928, aboard the SS Montcalm with children of a similar age, under the heading, Catholic Emigration Party. Not all of the children were from Homes and Institutions etc. some were and some gave parents names and addresses.
She came back to Liverpool on the Duchess of Athol, Oct 12, 1929.
It's easier to guess why she came back, probably didn't like the place and missed her mum, wouldn't like to speculate why she was sent, especially as she had a family here.
Haven't found Mary Elizabeth's 1914 baptism, her mother's Mary Elizabeth Warnick Catholic Baptism is available on Anc, parents, Henry Warnick and Margaret Gammon, there's also reference to John and Mary's marriage in the side column.
