Hi Pauline,

I saw your post on the Bootle site, and I have replied to it, I have given the ref number for the 1851 census as to where Rimrose Bank was.

Living there in 1851 was a William Holt solicitor age 43 born Liverpool with his wife and children, and some servants.

But just in case, here is the ref again H0107 2191 folio 152 page 22.

I have also given a link to the old-maps for 1850/1 and Rimrose Bank can be seen on the map.

Hi Jan, many thanks for posting here.....as I hadn't had a look at the Bootle site recently. Will have a mooch later - when the ironing is done! I get carried away looking at where the ancestors lived and am learning so much about the whole area just reading posts from other folk. Thanks again for helping me out yet again! Pauline.

Glad to help Pauline,

I could also see on the map St Thomas's church where William was baptised.

I would say that Rimrose Bank was on the edge of the river, and where Seaforth Docks are now.

Oh they would have had a lovely view from where they lived, and could just go on to the beach (yes Bootle had a beach!) or would it have been Seaforth Sands?

Aye Jan, that view possibly led William to become a "mariner" as on the 1891 and 1901 census! His father was a gardener/porter. Oh how I wish we could time travel to get a better idea of what life was like in those days! I also wish I'd known about my ancestors when I worked for the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board back in the seventies......I'm sure they'd have had interesting archives. So much to look into!
