John STAFFORD of Tranmere
Re: John STAFFORD of Tranmere
My Street ancestors were very good at giving the nod to all sorts of peripheral family members, ie mother's brother-in-law's surname as a middle name, a favourite teacher's surname as a middle name, but there was one that had us looking in the wrong direction for years. My gx2 grandfather and his wife were on holidays, staying in the home of his friend when their son was born so they named him after the town and then gave him the friend's name as a middle name! What were they thinking!!! Did they have no idea just how many false trails this would create 213 years later!! I think a lot of them would've been horrified to think just how much information about their daily lives is available to us now. However, it's these things that make researching such an enjoyable hobby, isn't it?

I think William was a brother as he was living/working in Caldy and was a carpenter, and carpenters made wheels back then. In fact, our 1923 Austin Twenty has wooden wheels!
Many branches of the Stafford family seem to have been non-conformists. I think this lot were Baptists. My Joseph was married to Janet Ferguson in 1845 in Muswellbrook NSW by the Presbyterian Minister from Singleton, the next big town on the way to Sydney.

Hi Bert,
Do you think that Benjamin who married Mary (Emma) Hughes was the son of Benjamin & Ann Jones? I think that Benjamin & Mary had four sons, John Walker, Joseph Walker, Samuel & Charles (info from GRO).
Stay well Bert. Jenny
