Yes Tarquin, order the birth certificate using the details Katie gave above, don't forget to give them the criteria then if it's incorrect you will be refunded, but my gut feeling is that she's hit the nail on the head.

No, checked the C. Allen is from the Deaths at sea indexes.

There is something weird going on with the Christian family.

On the 1939 Register there is a John Edward Christian born 18th May 1878 residing at 1, St. Mary's Road, Walton. Also in the house hold is a Martha J Morris Widow born 2nd jan 1883. George O Jones born 1912 and Hamilton J Jones born 1914 (Coincidence)

According to the 1911 censes John Edward Christian was born in the IOM.

There is a WW1 United States Draft registration for a John Edward Christian DOB 18th May 1878

He states his nearest relative is Isabella Christian Ohio.

I have followed John Edward and Isabella Christian on the Census records up to 1940 in which he states his place of birth is IOM

I have also located his marriage to a isabella Cowell in 1903 (also born IOM)

We've never been normal I must admit but can you give me the details I should check as advised by Mary as I seem to have lost the plot a little. Who do you think John Edward Christian is, I think his wife is Catherine Dowell as my father told us when he was alive, but the only clues I have at the mo is my parents marriage cert with John's name on it living at 8 Wykeham Street, Liverpool . I have sent off for John Edward Christian & Catherine Dowells marriage Cert to see if it helps at all but that won't be here till early Feb.

I hoping I can find the correct John so I can carry on with my searches

On the 1911 census John Edward Christian has a brother recorded in the house with him William Lawrence Christian. I have located a baptism entry for a William Lawrence Christian in the IOM which states his father is called John Christian and his mother is Elizabeth Quayle

On your tree on Ancestry you have John Edwards parents recorded as William and Catherine Clark Christian. This is not the right parents for your John Edward. I suspect the correct parents are John and Elizabeth Christian (nee Quayle) The marriage should confirm this.

Hope that makes sense.

On looking for a birth registration for a William Allen with a mothers maiden name Jones I located the following:-

September Qtr 1916
Allen (Jones) William Liverpool 8b (see Dec Qtr 1921)

I looked up births for Decemeber Qtr 1921 and we have the following

December Qtr 1921
Allen (Jones) William Liverpool 8b 206

William's birth was either not registered hence the Dec Qtr 1921 registration or Eliza Ann Allen adopted him?
What I suggest you do is apply for the birth certificate for William Allen registered Dec Qtr 1921 stating his date of birth and mother Eliza Ann Allen (nee Jones)

Please let us know when you receive the birth certificate to confirm that Katie's theory is correct. Meantime -

Been busy so just picked up this info, thank's so far, but more info regarding John Edward Christian (b 1878 ) Married Catherine Dowell 1906 , John Edward served in Army till 1910 and his father is named as JS Hart ( more scandle ) 29 Woslely Street, Liverpool. Yet another path to follow,

Think I need to sit down and digest all the new infomation and then carry on ( marriage and birth certificates should be here around begining of Feb

Finally have William Allen's birth certificate using the information found by your wonderful members.

Registration district Liverpool 1921 birth in sub district of Abercromby

Born in Liverpool maternity Hospital 20/09/1916, named William, Name of father None, mother Eliza Ann Allen formerly Jones of 85 Rushton Street ( where ever that is, need to look it up ) Address of mother 6 Albion Terrace, Low Hill ( where ever that is, need to look it up too ) quick look not found so I guess they turned into bomb sites.
Registered in December 1921 on the authority of the registration general.

Need to come to Liverpool to check out the records from the hospital, if here are any, and adoption area's for the John Edward link too
