Thomas [whose will I quoted] was linked by marriage or business with William Ewart [godfather of W.E. Gladstone] and families including Jaques, Rutson and others who seem to have Yorkshire origins, as do the Beckwiths. Thomas lived in Islington (Liverpool) and was buried at Holy Trinity, Wavertree, as requested in his will 'in a vault adjoining that of my nephew Christopher Jaques'.

Hitting the nail on the head, as usual, Bert. I have found a number of people named in Thomas B's will hailed from Thornton Watlass and Bedale, north of Ripon. I am now in touch with someone who has a large family tree online which includes many of the same names, and we are about to swap what info we have.
This is a slight variation from the original look-up request but I should be equally grateful for any information from a Liverpool directory of 1782 or nearby.
A will I have just received names the following as merchants in Liverpool to act as trustees for the distribution of legacies, but not as executors: Henry Ranthmel [the third letter of the surname is not clear, although the handwriting is a fine copperplate]. Stephen Ford. Thomas Beckwith [There are two possibles - his address may help to identify which this is].
