A location can have multiple area names attached to it. I would use the name that best describes the location. In this case we have a location that is in modern day Woolton and has Much Woolton on the image at the top of the page. It can be confusing to describe it as Childwall as that is considered a different area nowadays.

If this was me I wouldn't do anything with Ancestry or FMP's transcriptions but I would enter the census record on my tree as Delf Lane Woolton or Delf Lane, Woolton, Lancashire.

Good idea Blue!! And I'm almost sure there is a formula to change all words such as Childwall to Woolton.
I do have one actual baptism in Childwall but I think all the rest in Childwall are from census entries and as you say not really Childwall as we know it. Thanks for all your help everybody.

Re: Delf Lane, Childwall
I always go for the township/village name as the parishes were often large covering a number of townships. So in the case you quote yes I would state them as living in Much Woolton.
Lancashire Archives produce a couple of great maps one shows the townships and one the parishes before 1837. You can find the maps on the Society website on the link called about us.
