Far from being a nuisance if you have done research into this occupation you could well be an asset.

There's a book called "Gateacre & Belle Vale" by Beryl Plent and Mike Chitty that has photos of a Gateacre House. It says the house and grounds were sold for redevelopment around 1960. It used to be on the eastern side of Grange Lane opposite Riding School House. I don't think this is the same Gateacre House lived in by the Roskell family though. Also "Jump" is a surname.

This earlier map appears to show that "Gateacre House" was originally at the top of Gateacre Brow when the Roskell family lived there.

Very late but worth asking the question. Another topic I have an interest in, that of Hugh Bullen who lived in Hillside House Woolton, at the junction of Acrefield Road and Out Lane. After his death in1829 his wife Jane lived on in Woolton for a few years but there were difficulties selling the large house. Eventually the land [referred to in legal documents as the allotment] was sold off to a Mr Topham and the house to Mr Roskell. In my youth Woolton was always "Much Woolton" and Gateacre "Little Woolton." As has been mentioned before the boundaries between "Much"and "Little" were always questionable. Not sure if its still the same but the "Much" and "Little" boundary marker on Church Road which ran parallel to Acrefield were still in place the last time I walked that way about ten years back.

The old townships of Much and Little Woolton are now the wards of Woolton and Belle Vale. See page 14 on the link below for political boundary line between Woolton and Belle Vale. This boundary appears to be the old railway line so has divided the old Little Woolton (Gateacre) between Woolton and Belle Vale. The district of Gateacre has survived though and you will see it on maps and street signage. Some people would consider Gateacre to be the area around Gateacre Village but it also covers Belle Vale the current location of Gateacre School and extends as far as Naylorsfield near to the Knowsley boundary:-

Hello Rt. Rev. Richard Butler Roskell died at Dunsop Bank, Forest of Bowland - York 27 January 1883 - he left a Will which was proved by his sister Mary Elizabeth Lynch (nee Roskell)
Hope this is helpful. found on Ancestry Wills.........
He was a son of Robert Roskell and Anne (nee Kaye) of Gateacre.
They lived at Gateacre Hall until c1847 when Robert died.
I am looking for a picture of the hall if found. I have been looking for a long time.

Hi Joan, just to say hello and that I have never heard your surname before. What a brilliant name to research. I'm guessing it's from the far north of Lancashire. Good luck with your search.
